Hello, I'm a smart ass hahaha just kidding I like science, always have but have recently found science inept and scary because it doesn't impress me yet. My point is this. If we as human beings aren't careful with what we do we are capable of mass genocide. yup the end of life as we know it. Sure, it's possible to endure past the fact that we are killing off everything just to eat. Genetically modifying food is another thing entirely. Killing off pests which are actually food for birds. See how intertwined we are. Life is grand let's keep our noses out of genetically modifying food and start the march towards "DNA dining". yes food menus with food made for our type. Similar to that 90's fad of eating right for your type, just a little better than that. I dream of a day when all doctors have gene testing machines like these that are now almost a reality. They take this DNA profile and send it to the health care system who set's up the database file which is represented by a bar-code. When we go out to a restaurant the waiter wheels out a laptop and laser printer. You hand them your health card, the waiter scans the card and prints out a custom menu and hands back the menu with your card. You choose something, and tell the waiter, number four please.

I don't want a custom menu. I want what the guy at the next table is having.

Are you really poking fun at an inventor you seem like morons doing that.

This is the first post that I had to confirm that I liked. Weird.

Sex isn't everything but it's nice when it happens.

Do you see where this is going? Rather than discussing the thread it's resorted to sex.

That happens about once every six months if you believe in the latest scare. I am old enough to remember when Three Mile Island was going to be the end of life in the US (or at least Pennsylvania.)
Too late; we've been doing that for about 11,000 years now.
    OK.

I have been laying low because I felt dumb.

But... What actually do you mean?

And sex is a whole other ballgame.

    Let's start with feeling dumb.
The beginning of all life began with feeling dumb,
going back to feeling dumb may mean your going back
to your roots as a human being.
What I mean by calling you a moron is that I have
been working on a new concept and that concept has a
few soft spots. First it's not possible yet since the DNA
machines haven't gotten to the point where we can do
much more than get a blood reading and interpret the
data and look at the 23 chromosomes presented there.
My project can't go forward without the due diligence
of the medical world coming up with a DNA machine
that has proper software to make a perfect DNA profile
that can be stored in a database. Then we can start the
project I have in mind I call DNA dining.

In humans, each cell normally contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46. Twenty-two of these pairs, called autosomes, look the same in both males and females. The 23rd pair, the sex chromosomes, differ between males and females.

That's basic man, something we can all learn by googleing it. I'm talking about pushing the technology envelope and building services from it.

CT: the responses you are receiving are in the same spirit as your opening post - scattered and not really serious.

You've confirmed you're a smart ass. You started talking about the end of life as we know it, and, without even starting a new paragraph, drifted into DNA-scanning and dining.

If you want serious answers, it would behoove you to lead off with a serious focused question.

What do you want to talk about? Extinction? DNA-scanning? Dining?

It's all right to provide some back-story - some rationalization for your thesis/idea - but you should make it clear what it is you want to actually have a dialogue about.

The "DNA machines" (sequencers) are far more capable than that. They can completely sequence your DNA pretty quickly now.
They have that. What they don't have is something that turns your DNA profile into your "ideal diet" (nor does such a thing exist.)

    I'll start with a question:

Where is the correlation between my DNA and what I want to (or should) eat?

In you opinion what is DNA then? In my opinion it's genes telling us what's wrong and what to do is up to a doctor.

Why would you ask for an opinion?
    Wiki is a good start.

Right... and opinion is always an indicator of scientific worth when it comes to a proposal like you've made.

Does DNA tell anyone that you have, for example, vitamin deficiencies?
How about a chronic lung condition?
    Bird flu?

Oh wait, Spinal muscular atrophy shows up in DNA. What sort of menu would be offered for that?

Smoking Marijuana to assist a person with SMA type 1 can help you eat more. As food can be considered a burden for SMA patients. These may include a low fat diet, medications, and in some cases surgery. What your DNA or Genetic profile would tell you is obviously a low fat food list such as chicken breast in main courses such as chicken cacciatore and desserts such as Jello or pudding. The same would apply to other conditions with the same symptoms.
