IMO, as with all observation of natural functions without knowledge of physical causalities, it is actually quite understandable that the ignorant observer comes to a conclusion of *magical emanations* The phases of the moon have great influence on earth, such as the displacement of entire oceans, especially when the sun and moon are in alignment. In Astrology these phenomena are an example of the inherent power of cosmic configurations. http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moontides/ Personally, I wonder why such a force which can displace billions of gallons of water would not have an effect on humans (or any large animal). After all we are 95+% water and subject to the same external influences. p.s. When the moon is at its epicenter (closest to earth) do we become *lighter* than peoples on the other side of the earth? Mind, that I do not believe in Astrology as science, but I have personally witnessed a change in people's behavior during *full moon* phases. All I am saying is that in the early observer of the cosmos, the recognition of patterns and consequent results must have appeared to be in accordance with certain constants. Thus Astrology was born.
So you should be taller at high tide. On the other hand, at the molecular level - e.g. DNA - the gravitational force is superseded by electrochemical forces, so why would we expect the moon to have an effect?
That's why I was posing the question. As I understand it , nothing escapes the effects of gravity, even if other forces are stronger, gravitation should have an effect, albeit ever so slightly. The earth's gravity keeps us from flying into space., notwithstanding the electrochemical function, no?
Gravity affects large groups of molecules. It may have effects "ever so slight" on chemical interactions. I think they have done experiments on the ISS. But it's hard to believe that those "ever so slight" effects could determine our personalities in any predictable way.
I agree that people certainly don't turn into werewolves during full moon, but our brains function (think) at the nano level and "ever so slight" effects may well affect certain behavioral changes in certain individuals.
No. There is no "may well" about it. We have excellent reason to think that gravity has no effect, due to (a) the issue of scale of the forces and (b) the lack of any plausible mechanism by which such an effect could occur.
There are plenty of mechanisms which may cause confusion of the mind from indirect effects of gravity. At high altitude, the thin air (oxygen), due to less gravity, the brain (mind) will be affected, just as SCUBA divers at 100' may experience nitrogen narcosis and the bends when rising too quickly from that depth. In both scenarios Gravity (pressure) is an indirect but essential player. As to scale, is scale not relatively proportional to mass? The less mass, the less gravitational influence is needed to affect it's function. At nano mass only nano scale gravity may be necessary. I just read an article and some statistics about human behaviors during certain Moon phases. Could also be myth, but to me worthy of interest. https://www.heartmath.org/gci-comme...effects-on-life-on-earth-and-earth-processes/
Not at all. The force of gravity is on a different scale from that of the electromagnetic force. We know, exactly, the gravitational force on a proton, or en electron, due to the moon. It is so close to zero as makes no practical difference, because the mass of a proton, or even more so for a electron is so minuscule. But we know the electrostatic force on these same particles, due to the presence of nearby charged particles is highly significant, as that is what causes atoms and molecules to form and determines how they react (the biochemistry that determines how organisms behave).
I was born on the *cusp* 1:03 AM, Jan 21 . Aquarius with strong Capricorn influence. Ain't that a mess....Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! As always, I thank you for your patience with my probings. If I may explore a little further. If the brain function is only affected by electrochemical influences, what happens during a solar flare which bombards the brain with increased electromagnetic wave function? The result can easily be observed by disruption or black-outs of TVs and computers, even in pacemakers, which work (function) somewhat similar to the electrochemical functions of the brain. If a small instrument such as a pacemaker can be affected, why not the brain itself? http://www.solarstorms.org/SPacemakers.html I find it remarkable that people do not seem to experience any ill effects during Solar flares. There is no word * solcy*, but we do have historical evidence (albeit narratives by professional medical persons) of *lunacy*, a term which specifically addresses the influence of the moon on people's behavior. I find that curious. After further reading, there does not seem to be a physical correlation between moon phases and human behaviors, however, I read that a full moon may trigger certain behaviors in animals, but surely this must be just a coincidental part of their evolution and breeding cycles. The Farmers Almanac (?) suggests that planting certain crops during full moon, tends to increase yield, but of course, this may also be a coincidental phenomenon among the enormous variety and breeding behaviors of life on earth. But, I do find it interesting that this "lunacy" myth persist, even in presumed objective observers. And having personally observed slight deviations in people's apparent behavior during full moon phases, it is difficult to rid myself of bias. But I have to accept the science.
I think you sort of make my point for me. A solar flare releases a stream of electrically charged particles, plus X-ray and radio electromagnetic radiation. Both the particles and the radiation can affect communications on Earth, are a health hazard to astronauts and so forth. But note that this has nothing to do with gravity: these are electromagnetic phenomena, in other words manifestations of the electromagnetic force and not the gravitational force. Regarding perceived effects of the moon on people, yes there are many ancients myths, from women's periods to madness, werewolves, you name it. I am unaware of scientific evidence for any of these.
The thing ptolemy contributed to social understanding through astrology is to answer rightly or wrongly why we have different chemistry with different people besides just the influence of genetics, culture etc.
The thing people fail to realize is that the times catered more to certain signs. I am born on same day as Mao 12/26 Phil Spector. I analyze my chart and I am actually a Sagittarius and I feel like I could see myself get consumed with power, and. Dictatorship
As Capricorns we are fatalist. Joan of Arc, Mao, Aristotle, Nostradamus, Nixon, MLK, Jesus, we do not fear death, and we are the sign who will get it done in the end, and we will take those close to us with us. There is a saying. "Who plots and schemes his way to the top as he mourns his brothers fall? The Capricorn
