Has anyone given up sugar recently? Did they find it difficult? Any benefits?

Yes, I have greatly reduced my sugar intake. It was somewhat difficult. The benefit is weight loss and healthier eating.

I didn't give up fruit or worrying about sugar in peanut butter or things like that. I have up bread, rice, pasta, donuts, and soft drinks mainly.

A good rule of thumb is to give up anything you have a craving for.

I have just given up things I can easily avoid that actually contain sugar or sweeteners.

The benefit has been weight loss (well it doesn't come on) and the ability to eat whatever else I want (esp fatty stuff) without worrying a bit (ie no diet)

But the main reason I was posting is that I have noticed a noticeable improvement (not spectacular) in my eyesight.

That was not the reason I gave up sugar and I was surprised to have it sneak up on me.

A few searches show that sugar can be bad for eyesight .

That's interesting. I always had 20/20 until age and the reading glasses thing. Since them however my eyesight overall has been worse. I have regular glasses that I use (but don't have to) while driving. I could use them all the time but I don't.

I would love it if my eyesight would improve due to less sugar. So far that hasn't been the case but I'm still working on the no sugar as well.

I agree, without sugar it's not hard to maintain weight while eating more of what you want.

Yes I gave up sugar and noticed a big difference. I have a lot more energy and just feel much healthier. I've also read tons of material about how sugar is completely bad for you.

I don't believe quitting sugar will prevent cancer but I have read several articles that cancer cells thrive off of sugar so it's possible that quitting sure could help fight against cancer.

Now that you mention it, not consuming so much sugar does actually give you more energy. I can confirm that.

You really should get checked for Diabetes.

A robust system should be able to metabolize sugar easily enough so that your eyesight isn't affected.
If your eyesight is being affected, you might have undiagnosed Diabetes.
(Then again, for all I know you have been diagnosed.)

Damn, better call up all those pro athletes drinking Gatorade during games and tell them they're screwing themselves (and their millions of fans). Some great info to be found in this thread, yessir.
