The basis of these bed-shittings by the American public is quite often simple ignorance like that. If you recall, after the 2004 vote exit interviews demonstrated that a large percentage of W voters had the political stances of the two candidates on several key issues reversed: the positions held by W they attributed to Kerry, and vice versa. And that was their claimed basis for their vote.

    What right wing militia?
I gave a specific and a general example. Maybe you didn't catch them. I'll be more explicit: colleges are cesspools of liberal censorship. They regularly shout down and get removed people who have conservative views. There are tons of specific examples. Condi Rice is a good one. A successful black woman who was supposed to give the commencement speech in a primarily black college -- but oops, she's a conservative. So no dice. Cancelled.

Here's a poll saying the pro [liberal] censorship attitudes in American colleges are the highest they've been in 50 years of asking the questions:

I caught a bit of Trump and Letterman and Letterman was showing some of DTs "goods" all made overseas.

I think the mistake all have made is because he says outrageous things he is a fool but I see a very cunning person and all one can hope for is that cunning somehow works in everyone's favour.

Who knows when Regan stepped up it seemed like the world would stop but seemed to rise to the office.

Hopefully by this time next year we will look back and laugh.
My words when presented with a major worry.
And so often things work out.
    What can you do?

Here's a comparison of the views of Obama versus trump:

Obama is about 9 out of a possible 10 to the left of the general public. You don't get much more left wing than that.

That's an interesting one. Hillary was probably hurt there by Bernie, since in order to fight Bernie she had to cast herself as being very far to the left, then after winning the primary had to pivot ("right turn") and re-cast herself as being centrist. And to pull that off while fighting against an avalanche of her own lies is just not plausible. You just can't re-invent yourself as something else if people already believe you are lying.

By voting record as a Senator he was a solid Democrat. By virtue of what he was able to accomplish in his first term, with a democratic Congress, he's the most liberal President we've had since FDR. There really shouldn't be any debate about that. You can contrast him with Bill Clinton, for example, who made deals with the Republicans and had decidedly middle-of-the-road economic policies.
It's amazing how disconnected from reality you guys are. Have you ever even looked at voting records or political spectrums?

[caveat: this is on a scale centered on the American political scale, not a European one.]

And??? Could it be because they are liberal colleges with majority liberal students? Could you possibly be honest instead of painting one side with a halo and the other with a pitchfork? Otherwise you are playing the same bs game. Would an atheist liberal or hell, even a liberal be invited to a commencement speech at oral roberts university?? No dice. Please do tell how the right is magically superhuman with no sins or wrongs.

Have you ever been through a majority conservative area? Stifling and unwelcome unless you are like tgem whereas those same people can go into liberal areas without that treatment.

Yes, that's exactly the problem we are discussing: liberal colleges are anti-freedom of speech.

Do you not realize you are arguing against your own point? Liberal or conservative, it shouldn't matter: Americans should be in favor of freedom of speech. But liberals are not.
I've given specific examples. Your turn. Or are you just making this crap up as you go....?

Is that some kind of joke? All I see there is some colored rectangles, and a proven gullible sucker like you telling me they represent "left" views on some kind of scale that appears to be chartjunk.

I know for a fact that Obama is significantly farther to the "right" on half a dozen major issues than most Americans - single payer health care, bank bailouts, military contracting, foreign trade policy, it's a fair list.
The standard solid Democrat is a center-right politician. Obama was less of a lefty than Dwight Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter, to name two since FDR - what exactly do you mean by "liberal".
You can't center a scale on a scale. That's your first clue that you are confused.

Look, you don't get to call rightwing views "left" by claiming there is some kind of American scale that requires relabeling all the standard political positions. These words have meanings, or you lose the ability to make sense.

There is an actual Left in America, and Obama (say) is nowhere near in agreement with its views, at least not in his actual policy proposals. He's been a center-right politician, period.

Takes me back to my college days - that's where I first ran into guys like you, talking all the time about bad guys oppressing their speech. Hard to sleep sometimes, if they got on a roll and started raising their voices in the dorm rooms.

If you voted for isolationist policies you got it... Australia currently looking at it's security requirements due to what is seen as potentially the fall of the USA as a super power.
The USA can no longer be relied upon... is the bottom line..globally.
