Drain the Swamp? Oh, that is so yesterday.

Drain the swamp had become the mainstay of Trump rallies; with every rally Trump promised his devotees he would drain the swamp. But now that Trump has won the election the story is suddenly what swamp? Trump is mired in lobbyists and special interests. His cabinet consists mostly of millionaires and billionaires. And now former House Speaker Gingrich, a Trump surrogate has said Trump thought the term was cute, but now that he has been elected, he will be dropping it.

This is just one of the first campaign promises Trump will not deliver. There are many more which will follow. But usually politicians wait until they are at least sworn in before they start reneging on their campaign promises. Trump hasn't even tried to drain the swamp. In fact, as evidenced by his appointments, he has done everything possible to grow the swamp.

Gingrich goes even further, saying Trump could pardon his children and his aids in advance for any laws they may break in the future. Trump is sounding more and more like a third world dictator. Why are Trump and his staff even talking about violating laws?

Trump's sons are already selling access to Trump. It's ironic given Trump's accusations with respect to Hillary during the campaign. If you have an extra million dollars on tap you can buy access to Trump courtesy of Trump's sons.

This isn't a good start. It's probably a sign of things to come. Trump could have chosen the high road. But he didn't. At this point, I don't even think he knows what the high road is. So what's next? Trump is beyond a doubt the least transparent and most conflicted POTUS we have ever seen.

What campaign promise will Trump break next? He has already broken many, and he hasn't even entered office - what a start to his presidency.

Maybe Trump will create a new LLC, "Corruption R US". No wonder Trump and Putin are such good buddies given Putin is one of the most if not the most corrupt leader on the planet. Putin took an 86,000 dollar annual salary as president of the Russian Federation and turned it into a 200 billion dollar next egg - what a great businessman.

All you have to do is tell them things are now better, you don't have to actually do anything, that how politics works.

And if they don't buy that you tell em you could not fix the mess the previous mob made....well that the way it works in Australia.

The beauty of it! The absolute horrifying nightmarishly insane tentacled beauty of how he can brazenly admit he spouted utter bullshit, that he himself openly admits he does not believe!

Yes Trevor Noah is pretty damn impressive. I was watching the faces of Trump's audience to see their jaws drop but no ,they were expecting it.

He has them programmed better than the Dear Leader

    Yes fire someone each week.
    Trump can not lose.
Those who voted for him will never admit they made a poor selection.
Those who did not vote for him consider that he is as low as you go and things can not get worse.
So he has only one way to go and that is up.
Can we hope for less than at the end of term folk will say more than "well it could not have got worse than I expected"
The USA will survive and life will go on just different that's all, just different.

More swamp filling, and yet the trump followers are silent, in denials or chocking on their own drool.

Master, if you fill a swamp too greatly, does it cease to be a swamp?

It's interesting that not a single Trump devotee has weighed in on this. I'm guessing they want to pretend none of this happened, and hoping the world has Alzheimer's.

Within twelve months it will not be possible to find anyone who will admit to have voted for Trump. Even Trump will declare he voted for Clinton.

I don't know about that, I see people flying Trump flags out here, so I guess first sign things are going south for trump is when they stop flying those.

Which brings us to another point, Trump campaigned on the promise he would achieve 4% economic growth. That's a very high number for the United States. But last quarter, the US economy grew by 3.5%. And with Trump promising to spend a trillion dollars on infrastructure and a 12 trillion dollar tax cut to boot, 4% should be in the bag for Trump - assuming he does't screw it up with a trade war.

The irony here if not outright hypocrisy is that for the last 8 years Republicans have been steadfast and zealously opposed to deficits and debts, even going so far as to threaten the nation on multiple occasions with unnecessary debt defaults. For the last 8 years, for Republicans, it has been all about the national debt. Even during the depth of the Great Recession when fiscal stimulus was badly needed, Republicans to a person, steadfastly refused to provide it. Now when it isn't needed, Republicans want to spend it. In fact, spending that kind of money now would be very inflationary. With the economy growing at 3.5% and unemployment very low, the economy doesn't need to be stimulated. Stimulus now would be very inflationary. But that's exactly what Trump and his merry band of Republicans want to do. That's why the stock markets have rallied since Trump's election. They are banking on trillions of dollars in federal stimulus spending. If that doesn't happen the stock markets are coming down and coming down hard. I guess this is a hand out to gold vendors who sponsor Republican talk radio and Fox News - some of that crony capitalism right wingers like to rail about. The irony here is they can't see it. They wouldn't know crony capitalism if it slapped them in the face.

Now with Trump's election, it's what debt? You mean we have debt? Republicans seem to have forgotten the national debt and are prepared to launch into a period of unprecedented peacetime debt expansion.

I mean this is simple math. You cannot spend another trillion dollars on top of your usual expenses while reducing your income by a trillion dollars without adding trillions to the national debt. But now, none of that matters, because Republicans control Congress and the presidency. It's suddenly, what debt?

Have I misunderstood this? It has long since seemed to me that the USA was uniquely positioned to be completely blase about debt.

Greece,as an example can go bust but the USA ,by virtue of its position at the top of the global economic hierarchy can ,if it chooses slash its debt at a stroke by unilaterally devaluing its currency.

True it would risk losing its position as the reserve currency of the world but I don't understand why the USA in particular should be as frightened of its "debt" as the rest of the world's currencies.

By the way is Trump's nuclear expansion pronouncement linked unspokenly to a wish to inject money into the military/industrial complex and throw some red meat to his base?

It would feed a boom would it not and is his eye now focused on getting re elected?

Yes certainly there is a degree of liberal fearmongering going on about trump. Yes trump is a demagogue and hitler was a demagogue, but not all demoagogues were Hitler. I think it is in the same vain as when Obama first won and republicans were screaming about their guns being taken away any day now (still waiting?). Trump in theory is actually the most moderate republican president we have gotten in a long time, he won openly proclaiming he would keep SS and medicare, and end the wars, will he hold to that? Who knows.

Even before Bush Jr won, I feared he would start endless wars, and I was right, with Trump I simply can't make any predictions: the man jumped across the political spectrum so many times that at best it is clear he is devoid of principles, he will perhaps simply follow through on the craziest of republicans simply because those are who are in power now and whose party he took over (that is the way it is looking right now with his cabinet picks) Or maybe he will twist and turn and flip policy again and again with what ever random idea hits his narcissistic egomanical brain just as he has done over the decades.
