It'll never happen... What should happen is the elimination of special political health care / retirement plans!

Trump can undo Obama's executive order. So this is pointless.

I was not suggesting that Obama should do this. It will gain a lot more political traction and capital iff Donald Trump is the president who does it.

His re-election would be assured. Too bad for his political enemies in about two years.

And again the question is why. Why is it you think the Affordable Care Act should be repealed immediately? What benefit is there in that? Why do you think an instant repeal would be politically advantageous to Trump?

And one more thing, do you agree with Obama's deportation policies?

With whom would Trump get this political traction? He already has the Republican Party. How much more traction can the Republican Party give him? Do you really think repealing Obamacare will generate political traction among Democrats and independents who like the Affordable Care Act?

As has been widely reported, this is where Republican rhetoric meets reality, and it's really ugly. That's why Republican leaders and intellectuals are so reticent about repealing Obamacare. Republicans, Trump among them, promised something better. The problem is they don't have something better, and that's a big problem for them.

The reason why Obamacare was implemented was because America had the most expensive and least productive and efficient healthcare system in the world and it was getting worse by the day. Obamacare has slowed down the overall costs of American healthcare. It is doing what it was designed to to. Now when Republicans begin messing with Obamacare it becomes Trumpcare or Republicancare. If they simply repealed Obamacare all the problems Obamacare was intended to fix very quickly come back in spades. Republican rhetoric meets reality, that's the problem Republicans are now facing.

I suspect Republicans will make a fuss as they are wont to do. But in the end, they will tinker with Obamacare and call it Trumpcare or some other such moniker and call it a victory while changing very little. Hopefully, their tinkering will improve Obamacare. But whatever they do, it will bear their name. If they disrupt the healthcare system, they will pay a political cost.

Let's look at some of those costs. For starters, it will add more than 300 billion dollars to the debt. It will put a big hole in Medicare. Many rural hospitals will close. They won't be able to keep their doors open. That's already happened in many rural states, i.e. Republican states, which have refused Medicaid expansion money. The problem will get much worse with the repeal of Obamacare.

Many Republicans in red states are benefiting from Obamacare and love it; they just don't know it. They don't know it's Obamacare. If Republicans repeal Obamacare those Republicans will be in for a very rude awakening and a crude lesson in Obamacare. Rhetoric will meet reality.

Healthcare costs across the board will rise dramatically as they did prior to Obamacare. Before Obamacare healthcare costs rose by more than twice the income growth rate for many decades. You don't have to be a math genius to figure out that's simply not sustainable. Compared to other developed nations the US paid more than twice the cost for much less care. That's a problem whither Republicans want to admit it or not, and it's a drag on the kind of people who support Trump.

If Trump repeals Obamacare, he will wind up screwing the people in swing states who voted for him last year. That doesn't sound like a smart political move to me.

The right wing politicians in Australia would love to dismantle our health care system, but they know that do do so, they would be actually risking their lives! as well as their political career.
We have had our system since 1975.

I support Obamacare. I don't support the members of congress (formerly TEA party members) who voted over and over again to try and repeal the ACA when they had nothing better to replace it with. I think that if they are willing to do that for real, there should be real consequences for themselves that will be equal to the pain they are inflicting on their constituents who depended on Obamacare. It would be fair. Trump could do it, and he could do it whether or not he had his own plan for replacing it yet. It would give the matter the urgency it deserves, not just voting against Obama's legacy health care program because they didn't like him.

I support Obama's decision to deport Russian espionage agents and to shutter the bases they were operating from following Putin's hack attack on the election. And what took so long for him to do that?

As for the rest of the deportations, well, it's probably a more effective measure against illegal immigration than Trump's idea of building a higher wall and expecting Mexico to pay for it.

Well here is the problem with that, the ACA, i.e. Obamacare, is a law. Trump cannot undo a law with an executive order. He can undo how the Obama administration has implemented the law. But he cannot undo the law. And the truth be told, Republicans cannot undo the law because Republicans don't have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. But they can gut the funding of the bill through the appropriations process.

    http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/health-care-for-members-of-congress/

"Starting Jan. 1, 2014, House and Senate members, and their staffs, can only obtain employer-subsidized, private coverage through the exchanges established under the ACA."

Which means that if ACA or parts of it are repealed, the only way members of congress can retain their own coverage under the ACA IS TO EXCLUDE THEMSELVES FROM ANY CHANGES OR REPEAL.

As far as deportation of Obama, I would suggest Hawaii, which, like Texas, is not really part of the United States.

FYI, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump both used to be democrats.

And the only thing worse than a flip-flopping politician is a flip-flopping voter, but I've come to expect that from red states.

So you see, an executive order mandating that changes of ACA for citizens affects congress in the same way makes perfect sense. Someone needs to enforce the spirit of the law as written, until any changes are reviewed by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has already upheld this law. Checkmate, congressional jerks.

Kindly provide even a SHRED of evidence to this claim... last I checked, Hawaii and Texas are both still part of the 50 United States...

All Trump has to do is set up a parallel health care system, based on free market principles. You get rid of the mandate, that requires everyone buy goods, and give the people, a choice. People will shop and buy where it is cheaper. ObamaCare will need to lower cost and prices or it will implode, until even the rats jump ship.

It would be like a town with one department store, that can set any price they want, since people have no other choice. Those who benefit by this, will do everything they can to prevent competition, including playing political games against anyone who welcomes competition. Once the new store is built, and there is competition, people will shop based on price, not loyalty to a long term sales pitch. It is nothing personal, just good economic sense.

What I would do is expand the VA, and have the VA take care of the 20 million poor people, who can't afford insurance. The Military has a long history of helping out civilian displaced by war, who have no place to go. The set up kills two bird with one stone; poor and veterans work together. This frees up the private sector plans, in terms of paying for dependency, beyond your own personal needs. The prices will come down even more.

We have that right now. You can walk into any healthcare facility in the US and pay cash. So why is he bitching so much?
No, it's like a town where the only requirement is you buy stuff occasionally, but you can buy from whoever you want.
So you are in favor of a single payer system with 100% government control.

Sounds good to me, would love to see what replacement the republican got for the ACA, lets see what the heritage foundation came up with... oh that right the ACA, hum, well I predict what ever replacement the republican come up with that is not actually just a tweak will be significantly worse than the ACA and will hopefully result in a progressive swing back just as the 2008 recession brought on by republican deregulation did, hopefully we will finally get single payer after that.
