Testing and always being wrong is pretty close

Except defining what "it" actually is. No mechanism of spirits from beyond the grave, appearance on film, interactions, etc. has passed any kind of muster.

So, so far, they have some phenomena. And there is already natural phenomena to explain these things.
If someone ever comes up with a hypothesis of the mechanics/physics of dead hauntings, and can test the idea, then maybe there will be something to talk about.

None of which has been shown to be manifestly tied to hauntings from beyond the grave.

The reality of the phenomenon is all the matters at this point. Just like if your dog goes missing. You can know that it's missing without knowing how. And no, all natural explanations are ruled out on every investigation. There is no natural explanations for footsteps in an empty attic. There is no natural explanation for luminous orbs captured on film. There are no natural explanations for 3 scratches suddenly showing up on someone's back. There are no natural explanations for a little girl's laughter in a deserted house. Etc and etc. The theories of how it occurs will come over time, just as it does with all science. But we know paranormal phenomena are real and are not caused by mundane factors.

Doesn't have to be. Anymore than the existence of dark energy has to be tied to some theory we have about what causes it.

Considering how long humans have fantisised about ghosts you would think the science would be settled by now. Do you think the movie ghost busters was a documentary?

Remember in the old days of poor TV reception and you got ghosts on the tv... Where did they all go?
Those were the days ghosts aplenty.

Seriously? Mainstream science considers it a woo subject. No scientist would touch it with a 10 ft pole. He'd be ostracicized and lose his funding for even expressing interest in it. So no it's not surprising there's no solid scientific theory yet about a phenomena science won't even admit exists. But there are some theories that can be tested. For example residual vs intelligent hauntings. Residual hauntings are like holographic recordings of the past. Intelligent hauntings are actual conscious entities like spirits. Both theories have their supporting evidence and can be tested in every case.

And yet there is so much evidence.
Its funny we have folk believing in various Gods and look at the funding for religion.
    We muzt be missing something.

Science is a servant to corporate and govt funding. There's a shitload it's missing. Surely you know this by now.

Well, at least you're honest about being anti-science.

Kind of makes all your previous assertions about science moot.

Wrong, I just don't worship science like some religion. It's a human enterprise subject to human motives.

    Why do you day that?

A 1991 poll of members of the National Academy of Sciences found that only four percent believed in ESP (although 10 percent thought it was worth investigating). My guess is that many more scientists believe, at least tentatively, in paranormal phenomena, but they are loath to disclose their views for fear of harming their reputations—and even science as a whole.
    https://blogs.scientificamerican.co...minded-about-paranormal-stuff-so-why-not-you/

The NAS membership totals approximately 2,290 members and nearly 460 foreign associates, of whom approximately 200 have received Nobel prizes.
    http://www.nasonline.org/about-nas/membership/

By my math, that comes out to 229 scientists that believe the paranormal is "worth investigating" and at least 91 that "believed in ESP." Extrapolating, I think it safe to say that you could find at least one scientist to negate that "Mainstream science considers it a woo subject" idea. Or not...

    Your own article confirms it:

"My guess is that many more scientists believe, at least tentatively, in paranormal phenomena, but they are loath to disclose their views for fear of harming their reputations—and even science as a whole."
