Gun safety best ever, accidental deaths at new low, 0.3% of all in 2015
"Despite gun sales reaching record numbers in the last two years, accidental gun shootings are at an all-time low, a surprising finding by the National Safety Council.

In its annual "Injury Facts" report, the group put accidental gun deaths in 2015 at 489.

That is the lowest since 1903, when record-keeping began and a 17 percent one-year drop.

"That's about three-tenths of 1 percent of the 146,571 total accidental deaths from all other listed causes. The decrease came in a year that saw record firearms sales to many millions of Americans," according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry's representative.

Gun control advocates sometimes cite accidental shootings by legally own guns in their effort to cut sales or demand special safety measures.

In 2015, some 23 million guns were sold, an all-time high then. Last year sales surged to 27 million.

The number was far lower than other accidental death causes in the report."
Personally, I think this is due to the rash of expanded gun-rights laws in many states over the last eight years, since carry permits incentivize their mandatory safety courses.

Well, you've picked the right subforum to make your scientific case in support of that assertion.

    Have at it.

I've heard this from some podcasters near Chicago.
In Illinois, it's like 5 hours instruction, including videos, and a half hour of range time, where the instructor doesn't even watch, max range 30 feet. And a take home multiple choice test where you can pass with 70%.

Any plausibility in the claim that the minimal skill and care improvements available from these concealed carry permit requirements are responsible for a significant drop in accident rates is an indictment of the prior gun ownership situation.

You might want to rephrase that.

I think in New Hampshire, it's just legal for everyone who owns one. Also they have no restrictions on knives whatsoever. You could walk around with a sword if you wanted to.

Nonetheless, the statistics on gun deaths are still astounding. It's come to the point where the average American's death is just as likely to be caused by a gunshot as by a road accident. Compare this to Japan, which has fewer than ten gun deaths per year.

And of course, that statistic fails to make the point that automobiles are one of the technologies that makes our country prosperous, whereas the only use for a gun (unless you live in the wilderness, hunting your own dinner) is for pathetic little men to imagine that they're big and important.

And you're talking about hunting rifles and shotguns. The only use for a hand-gun is killing people.

(And to correct your statement: "pathetic little men with small penises.")

Personally, I think you're full of it. How do you account for the much larger drop between say, 1993 and 2000? As opposed to the near zero change of 2001 and 2013?

    I suppose you just disregard:

We’ve had a massive decline in gun violence in the United States. Here’s why.
...researchers have identified several reasons for the shift. Here are five.

    1. More police officers on the beat
    2. Police using computers
    3. Less booze
    4. Less lead
    5. A better economy
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ited-states-heres-why/?utm_term=.79f1b3f8175c

...as identified by "researchers" - you know, those that do this sort of thing for a living. We can just discount all that because Syne says, right?

Still bullshit, as always before. If you aren't a suicide or gang banger, you have very little chance of being killed by gunfire. If on top of that you aren't living with a violently abusive man and/or keeping a handgun in your house, your odds drop to negligible. Guns aren't killing "average" people very often.
And for suicides to kill themselves without suffering, and for drug dealers to defend their turf, product, and cash.
And for vulnerable people trapped in bad neighborhoods to keep as a defensive threat.
And for rural residents to establish as a threat, forestalling various abuses.
And for rural gardeners to defend their months of hard work with, against various piratical vermin.
    And so forth.

    TOP DEFINITION
    swamp slug
    1. A muck feeder
    2. A devious, toothless, thieving, filthy, mooching, slut, who has been ran through by all the dirtiest people in the worst part of town. That will steal everything she can get away with even down to ur dirty underwear. After she smells them.
