(NOTE: THIS IS NOT A RACIAL THREAD..DO NOT POST IF YOU HAVE ANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS. THIS IS FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY.)

Hello, I was told by an Italian decended person that the reason southern italians were darker skin toned was because they were conquered by the Moors and Alexander the Great was black.

So my question is...was Alexander the Great black or was he a decendent of any person of african decent? (please don't discuss the moors or italians etc...just want to know about Alexander the Great).

    Thanks in advance. Nik

    Ahhhhhhh.
There exists portraits of Alexander I believe from the time of his life. And none of them have him as black.

    Alexander wasn't particularly black

I've also never seem a black Alexander portrait, and some of the portraits are historical, although I don't remember exactly how old. I've never heard of him being considered black. I remember from art class an ancient Greek bronze sculpture called the Rubio, meaning the blond. I remember the profesor commenting that blond hair was to be found in ancient Greece. Macedonia (Alexander's origin) is north of Greece, so I'd guess it wouldn't have more African blood than Greece. On the other hand, if you go back far enough all humans are inter-related, so he certainly had some degree of African ancestry, and the human race did come from Africa, so...

Alexander the Great was obviously a Milano.
Most Greeks and Italians were mixed blooded with the Africans and Hebrews that were venturing the area.
There are photos from history older than stone statues that portray his likeness.
He has brown skin and dark hair.
Very olive toned and has features like that of jews.
    Don't believe movies.
There is a reason why the actors have Irish accents.
They wish they did have such an awesome history.

Well does he look black? The obverse is Poseidon (man sitting on throne). This is a coin minted by Alexander the Great during his reign. Alexander was a Macedonian. So it's highly unlikely for him to have been black. If he was, it would likely have been mentioned in the historical record. But it wasn't.

He spent a lot of time in the sun and was known not to use sun block. He was an athlete and a pretty good dancer so while not black it is a common misconception.

Alexander was the scion of the Argead Dynasty (the House of Argos), the founders of Macedonia, who ruled it for several generations. Of course, Alexander's ancestors surely intermarried occasionally with people from other civilizations, just as any royal line in any era. But it's certain that his ancestry was primarily Indo-European, not African.

The British royal family name is "Mountbatten," a translation of "Battenberg," the surname of a couple of German lords who married into the British royal bloodline. It was anglicized during WWI, because of the ill will toward Germany and Germans.

He was a Moor ( Arab ) there are different shades of black , and don't believe Moors are considered blacks as Africans below the Sahara belt.
