Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric (GE) said on Monday an impeachment of Trump would blow the market away. It should be made known that in his retirement Welch has become a bit of an ideological extremist, and has made many whacky partisan statements in the past in order to advance his ideological agenda.

On Monday, when the market was down, Welch made that assertion. Since then the markets have recovered some of its losses. So the question is, would Trump’s impeachment blow away the markets as Welch has decried.

In my opinion, the answer is no. There probably would be some temporary instability in the market, as I don’t imagine Trump would go peacefully into the night. Trump would probably have to be subdued and physically removed from the White House. But once removed from office, I think the market would regain any loss incurred during the transition, and in the end the market would be stronger.

Pence would become POTUS and without a madman in the White House, Republicans would stand a much better chance of moving their legislative agenda through Congress, and they wouldn’t lose as many seats in the interim elections next year.

I think it’s just a matter of when Trump is impeached. It’s not a matter of if. Given how extensive Trump’s Russian connections are and Trump’s efforts to suppress investigations, I wouldn’t expect an impeachment before year end. But in 2018, it’s a new ballgame. It could occur at any time. I expect we would see Trump’s men begin to fall before Trump is impeached. I think it likely we will see charges brought against Flynn, Manafort, and others in the first half of next year.

So will Trump's impeachment blow away the markets as Welch asserts?

the good thing about trump is he is more transparent like a toddler. this is good for the next election as it will swing democratic. Pence would be another ulterior motive potus to appease the public that isn't his base which is worse because they could be more effective.

You guys are living in wishful fantasy land. There is no grounds for impeachment, seeing Obama and Hillary did far worse things and got to slide. The IRS scandal for Obama was worse, especially with nobody brought to justice. Hillary broke all kinds of laws, with her private server, including destroying classified government property. This is all hopes and dreams based on a dual standard system that only benefits Democrats and establishment.

Let us go back into time. Comey was hired in September 2013. He was appointed Director of the FBI by President Barack Obama.[4] In that capacity, Comey was responsible for overseeing the FBI's investigation of the Hillary Clinton email controversy. The job of Comey was damage control. The story was out and they could not put the genie back in the bottle. Comey was loyal to his boss Obama and the Democrats, which is why Hillary got a pass. It had to look official, so Comey was asked to walk the fence by Obama, in a capacity not normally give to the FBI director, He was acting like the attorney general to have another layer of cover.

Comey was not trustworthy, in terms of Trump, since he showed the dual standards of a democrat party operative. If the Democrats were more cooperative with Trump, on anything, Trump may have kept Comey. How can you trust a Democrat appointee when the Democrats are so linear against you?

The firing of Comey has upset the devious plans and schemes of the Democrats. Comey would never investigate Obama and Hillary, in terms of the wire tapping and the continued deep state tactics. The new FBI director will be loyal to Trump, like Comey was to Obama. He will do the right thing. He will find dirt on Obama and Hillary, while continuing the Trump investigation. Trump will be excused because everyone knows Trump is senile, therefore he had no ill intent; Hillary ignorance defense. But Obama and Hillary are the smartest man and woman on earth and therefore should have known better. The Democrats have already created the narrative, that will be used against them.

It is funny that the media on both sides never mention Comey was a Obama appointee, as a key point to keep in mind. It has to do with fake news and the needs of propaganda.

Says the woman who believes in Santa, the Easter Bunny, and Hillary Clinton is running a child sex operation out of a pizza joint in Washington, DC (Pizzagate)…

There are grounds for impeachment whether you like it or not. There is enough evidence for a Trump appointee to appoint a special prosecutor and for congressional Republicans to praise him for doing so.

What did Obama and Hillary do which are “far worse things and got to slide”? Unfortunately for you and those like you comrade, fact and reason still matter.

A Republican congress investigated the “IRS Scandal” to hell and back and found no evidence of criminal wrong doing by anyone much less Obama or Hillary. Oops. It’s those damn facts again comrade. Hillary wasn’t in charge of the IRS. She was Secretary of State not the Treasury. Oops. But then what do you care about facts? Obviously you and those like you don’t.

Furthermore, Republicans have investigated Hillary Clinton to Hell and back for nearly 30 years now and found nothing. It wasn’t illegal for Hillary Clinton to have a private email server. It wasn’t illegal for Hillary Clinton to use her private server as previous Secretary of States have done. But because Hillary is a Democrat the rules are different. When Republican Secretaries of State do what Clinton did it’s no big deal for folks like you. But by God if a Democrat does it, it’s a bloody atrocity. She used a private email account to conduct state business as her Republican predecessors did. That’s not a crime as you have alleged.

Where is the evidence Hillary illegally destroyed classified government property? Let me guess, it’s with your evidence that Hillary is running a DC child sex operation out of a pizza joint or with any of the many other basely charges you and those like you have made about the Clintons over the decades.

Yeah, let’s go back in time. Comey was “hired” by Bush 2.o (a Republican PUTUS) to serve as the US attorney in 2002. In 2003 Comey was appointed Deputy Attorney General of the United States by Bush 2.0 and served for a time as the Acting Attorney General of the United States.

Comey demonstrated his integrity while serving as Acting Attorney General by refusing to approve Bush’s domestic surveillance program because Comey believed it to be unconstitutional. In 2013 Comey was appointed Director of the FBI. Hillary’s use of a private email server didn’t become publicly know or known by Obama until 2015. Oops. Your conspiracy dates are just not consistent with known facts again…as if that matters to you, because clearly they don’t.

Well here it the problem for you and those like you Wellwisher, you have no evidence for your conspiracies, and while fact and reason don’t matter to you, for most of us they still matter. Comey is a Republican who was first appointed to government office and promoted to high office by a Republican president and stood up to that president when he demanded he sign off on an illegal domestic surveillance program.

Comey did investigate Trump’s unfounded wiretapping accusations and found nothing. Oops! When confronted, Trump has repeatedly refused to back up his wiretapping allegations with evidence. How can you fault Comey for not finding evidence when the man making the allegations has no evidence?

What is deeply troubling is your blatant approval of Trump’s efforts to politicize the American system of justice. The American system of justice has long been apolitical. That’s one of the many things that distinguish the US from autocrats like Putin. But then both you and your man Trump like Putin and autocrats in general. Unfortunately for you and Trump, America is a democratic state.

The fact that you think personal loyalty pledges are good things is deeply disturbing. Do you know who else demanded personal loyalty pledges? You may have heard of him. His name was Adolph Hitler. His actions resulted in the deaths of 80 million people.

There are reasons why public servants are required to pledge allegiance to the country and the US Constitution rather than an individual as you and your man Trump would have it be. Yes, I find the rise of fascism in America as exemplified by you and your man Trump deeply disturbing.

Impeachment does not = removal from office which is highly unlikely.

No, it doesn't. But that doesn't mean it's unlikely. Nixon resigned before being removed from office through impeachment proceedings. Will Trump do the same? I'm not sure. If it's a way to salvage his ego, he will as Trump values nothing more than his ego.

it was always there, just waiting in the woodworks since reaganite era where liberals and progressives were on the backburner of society with no voice/rights when conservatives/republicans were a majority. as they had children who differed or were more evolved than their predessors as liberals and progressives have been able to have a steady voice from the 90's onwards.

It should be noted, Trump is relatively Progressive, and had for years supported Hillary and was mostly a left-leaning socialist with some fascistic tendencies (like regulating the markets in favour of people like Trump). Trump's greatest gift is being able to communicate like a 4th grader with a straight face. Ha, did you see him praying at the wailing wall. First POTUS in history.

I had hoped Trump would follow through on one, and only one, of his campaign, promises: end America's phoney wars. My Gods, did you see CNN drop to their knees and start gladly servicing him when he bombed Syria. From MSNBC to Fox I kept seeing irritating videos pop up on YouTube of various media whores/newscasters cheering for Trump The Magnificent.

Given the MSM cannot stop propagandising the functionally illiterate public on how evil Trump is, and how quickly they praised him when he pretended to bomb an airstrip, well, if he could turn down THAT much adoration, he'd probably be one of the best POTUS the USA has had in over a century. My guess is, he'll fall in line and start bombing shit - that's what they all do. Then, he'll reconsider immigration reform, I mean, gee, where's the tax money going to come from to pay for the free-shit, and the wall. I bet he reappoints ole' Yeller at the fed. Then maybe Americans will take a long hard look at what a farce the Republic has become. At that point, who knows? Will they go ape shit crazy? Maybe, and they'll find a Police State more than happy to, and more than capable, of putting them down with ease.

Get back in your stall and start making milk for your Farmers.
You get let out once every now and then to pull the magic voting lever.
Then back in your stall you go.

Aside from innuendo, hope of the Left, and biased opinion, what is the EVIDENCE (i.e., like proof for all you atheists, remember?!) that Trump has committed any impeachable offense?

He won't be impeached until there's an investigation, and it shows something the Trump administration can't recover from. At that point, he would most likely resign. If Republicans do vote to impeach, it's a done deal.

There is plenty to show Trump is lying, more Russia contacts surfaced just today.

The answer to the market question is "no".

Regarding impeachment. That's a political remedy and with Republicans in charge of the House it's hard to make a case for impeachment. With Republicans in charge of the Senate it's hard to make a case for conviction.

He may be impeached after the mid-term elections depending on those results and on the investigation results at that point. Regardless of the original focus of the investigations, there is plenty to be found that could result in his impeachment whether it's lying, trying to stop an investigation, illegal business transactions, etc.

He's not a smart man and he is his own worst enemy so if anyone can get impeached where others wouldn't it would be Trump.

Well, obstruction of justice for starters. We do not yet know the extent of Trump's crimes. But we do know Trump has actively tried to suppress an active investigation. Two, impeachment isn't a criminal proceeding. So you and others of your ilk who equate it to a criminal proceeding and attempt to apply the same rules are flat our wrong. You clearly don't understand what an impeachment is. High crimes and misdemeanors are whatever Congress says they are. It's really rather simple. The House indicts and the Senate conducts the trial. Impeachment doesn't happen in a courtroom comrade. Obstruction of justice was the charge levied against Nixon, and he resigned before impeachment. Before we get to impeachment, I think it likely The Donald resigns from office. But he like Nixon will not go quietly or easily.

It's a big ask. As you noted, Republicans will not readily impeach another Republican. But I have to think even Republicans have limits. The Trump drama isn't going away, and the longer it goes on the more it will cost Republicans in the 2018 elections. At some point, congressional Republicans might think it better to dump Trump. That's when Trump gets impeached.

I didn't use a straw man argument Michael. I think we need to send you to a logic 101 class. You wrote, " I had hoped Trump would follow through on one, and only one, of his campaign, promises: end America's phoney wars.", to which I replied, "There is nothing phony about war Michael. There is nothing phony about people dying in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria." That's not a straw man Michael. Oops.

    For your edification:
"A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while refuting an argument that was not advanced by that opponent.[1] One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man".

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

The only one using a straw man is you comrade.

You aren't arguing against an investigation, you are arguing against impeachment, which could only happen after an investigation showed some wrongdoing. So what's your argument against an investigation? Certainly it's the duty of a politician to find out if the Trump administration's suspicious Russian contacts constituted something illegal. Your defensiveness only shows that you are scared about what might come up.
