I've noticed in recent threads, maybe over the course of the last eight or so months, a strange-seeming practice of highlighting a member's user profile in a post. The reason I say "strange" is that I do not understand the purpose: • I, as a user, receive no system notification when someone does this. • Over the years I have come to accept that people do not perform deep, detailed research, so the idea of directing other readers to a member's profile in order that one might research years-worth of posting history seems a dubious proposition. That is to say, you're not making a point to the user; making a point to the audience seems a dubious proposition. What other function am I overlooking? I'm not going to object to the practice; I just don't get what it's for. Anybody? Anybody? (¡Thank'e!)
Perhaps I am being thick but I think I sometimes do this when I copy and paste a member's name and the name I copy already has a link (to their profile) in it. So the link gets "carried forward" It is quite unintentional. Is that what you mean?
I confess I'm not seeing it; I'm trying to think of when I might "copy and paste a member's name" with that kind of data in the transfer, and just not coming up with anything. But neither can I say you're wrong. I will note the URL looks manufactured, as if a system put it in place, but ... I don't know. I just can't visualize what you're referring to.
Tiassa arfa brane (test) No it is not doing it with those attempts. Perhaps it was on another forum that I noticed that happening. And I don't remember exactly where I did it (but I know it can happen) Maybe it happens within nested quotes (but I don't think it was that).
