Are they really in our best interest ?

Your question seems to imply they do something else

If I am correct would you please share your idea about what you consider pharma drugs are doing?

Are you talking brain itself or the drug which will stimulate the brain in order the brain will stimulate some hormones that will bring some reaction on a particular organ ?

Corporations exist to make money so they are concerned about themselves. Corporations that produce useless drugs will fail. Corporations that produce dangerous drugs or make false claims will be fined, sued and/or arrested.

A brain infection can cured with antibiotics...

Psychotropic drugs inevitably have unknown side effects.
And, quite often they have little effect in treating the condition for which they are prescribed.
The New Yorker has an interesting article on the history of the industry:
    http://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/the-psychiatric-drug-crisis

IMHO drugs rarely "cure" an illness. Most often, they just mask the symptoms.

    Here's another:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/depression-medication-why_b_550098.html
In which, Mark Hyman, MD states: "Antidepressants don’t work"

Many drugs were developed for one reason, then marketed for their side effects.
So, it seems that it is much like the old saying---------"throw shit up against a wall and see what sticks"?
Then market the stuff that sticks.

The schizophrenias are genus, not species.

and, then, we have the schizophrenogenic family

    have you had hallucinations?
do you hear voices telling you to do things which you know are wrong?

I had an hermit uncle, Fritz, who talked to himself---some days, he even seemed to be arguing with himself.
One day, his brother tried to embarrass him on this subject.
He responded: "Elmer. when I talk to myself I am guaranteed an intelligent and sympathetic audience. What a pity that I cannot say the same for when I talk to you."

I think I need some of that... because this post gave me a headache.

In all seriousness, though - no, corporations are not ethical. They are there to make money - full stop. Without ethics enforcement, there would be many who would go to any length to make a buck (as we saw in the past... and is why we HAVE ethics rules now)

Yes, modern medicine is a scientific miracle. Are they perfect? No. But treatment is now available for many many diseases that would otherwise have crippled or killed millions of people.

You realize a pharma (pharmacy I presume?) is just the dispenser of said medication... they don't develop or prescribe...
