Other than serendipitously (fortuitously?) "mouse-hovering" over text that has embedded in it a hyperlink to an external website, is there a way for readers to tell that a particular word/phrase/sentence has been hyperlinked?

Asking because it seems the whole of the Internet that I've encountered, that is prior to joining here, uses an innately visual indicator that a given piece of text can be clicked on and that they will by clicking access content found elsewhere. Here, however, it seems if one doesn't "hover" over a hyperlinked term/phrase, one has no way to know that there is an embedded hyperlink there.

Yup. It's a shortcoming in the styling settings.
It could be corrected if an admin with admin permissions were of a mind.

Me, I always take an extra moment to add styling to links myself: underline them and change the font colour to blue.
