Have being too social , has that compromised our individual expression ?

This is for the younger crowd

Can you express your thinking , freely ?

Or does the crowd thinking , dominate ?

How is anyone able to discern the extent to which their own thinking is influenced?

Jeeves asked the very question I was about to.

Part of the problem is that there are pitfalls at either end of the spectrum. Too little socializing and one is trapped in one's own ideas, which, having insufficient external stimuli, will tend to stagnate.

I read an analogy recently, being social is like river rocks rubbing together, smoothing out all the rough edges.

All of our expression is comprimised by others in one way or anuther whether by a crowd or an individual... ether of which at any given time could apear to have the strongest influence on us... an i dont thank an increase in social lifestyle causes any less freedom of expression.!!!

    True

But too much socializing can lead to confusion .

One needs to take time to process one's stimuli, to sort out the confusion.

Saying there can be too much socializing because it can be confusing is like saying there can be too much education because it can be confusing.

Right. It's silly to suggest there can be 'too much' education. Because 'it can be confusing' is not a reason to stop getting it.

    True

But where any information comes from , the truth as opposed to BS , is the challenge .

Likewise with being social. One doesn't stop socializing just because it's 'confusing'.

    True

Socializing though does not , necessarily lead to truth .

This thread is not about truth. See title and post 1.

But in the end , being too social is about truth .

That would be one opinion. It would need to be defended.

Why would it be one opinion? Because you are only one person.

    Hmm....true , but not just me .

There are many independent thinkers .

    You speak for yourself.

And, unless you can show otherwise, the default is that everybody else is an independent thinker too.

It is the height of naivete (and you're not the first one to make this mistake) to think that oneself is the only independent thinker in a sea of ... sheeple.

As matter of fact, thinking so, is a sign that you are too influenced by others' ideas (since it's not an original idea).

It's even been immortalized in XKCD:

You show that , from the many , becomes everybody .
