I know you like to think these word snippets make you sound mysterious and deep, but they don't work when the people you are trying them are well-acquainted with the long history cheap hand-waving tactics. We will not get any more meaningful content from you on this topic, just shorter and shorter mystery blurbs.

This is exactly right. There is a tendency to dismiss people who hold a commonly held viewpoint that is not one's own. But then one's own viewpoint is, as likely as not, just a different, commonly held one, too.

Having said that, one does come across people whose views seem to form part of a very predictable "package". Sometimes one can even guess what newspaper they read. The people whose opinions I listen to most attentively are those for whom it is not easy to predict their view on a given subject. But that's not a fail-safe guide either.

I think it is quite important to mix with - and read the opinions of - different groups of people in order to form balanced views. The lack of this, it seems to me, is the danger of the much-discussed "echo-chamber" effect that the internet can have (depending on how one uses it).

I certainly don't know that. I can't even parse it, let alone divine its relevance here.

the danger of being too social can get you killed because people are untrustworthy and you can only trust them as far as you superficially know them. how fake society is. how you never really know anyone. or in most cases, people just believe the superficial as real never really knowing who the person is making friendships based on superficial reasons. what's telling is these girls were never really her friend yet she called them her best friends and for frivolous reasons which is common and not at all surprising they would backstab her in a heartbeat.

the bottomline is something, ain't it? can't trust in a universe where the bottomline is so dangerous. listen to what dr phil has to say at the end about how one's mind usually just can't foresee such evil or would predict because some people just cannot conceive that there is evil or people capable of such evil or to such depths of depravity.

but on a science forum, it's really not indicating that as so much about these particular players in this scenario which are the people involved so much as how evil the bottomline of the laws of nature is and that is technically what their blindspot was and that is the false sense of trust in abstract boundaries, ironically, forgetting where the bottomline really is objectively very evil.

that's terrible, isn't it? that you have to be so aware and suspicious of the worst possible which is the unthinkable but the unthinkable is very much possible and a reality in this universe.

and each negative experience, teaches you another contemptible lesson in being aware of just how low (not high or better) the laws of nature operates and to aware of it for future reference and file that knowledge away and to be on guard because it may happen again. ironically, your wisdom is honed more by the awareness of what is shit or unworthy than what is worthy because what is good is not the priority and inconsequential if you have to be looking out for shit out to get you, so that has to be the first order of business always. this is a fuking shit universe and i don't even think it's an opinion but a realistic and fair evaluation.

this is a brutal and evil universe. there is just no way to mince those facts. even looking back at the process of evolution is a testament to how insanely brutal this universe is. all fangs and claws, literally. the nightmare is real after all.

the evidence is just all around us, even to the point of redundancy in newsclips, we become desensitized.. how you know this is a objective fact is in reality they were capable of killing and they did and it's permanent and even if they put them away for life, it still doesn't reverse or change the fact of their loss. that's just how much blatant power evil has in this universe due to it being located literally at a foundational level of it's structure. you are in it's lair not just figuratively but literally too.

it starts like this: you come into this universe like an amnesia or abductee victim with no choice , paradoxically innocent and then the universe shows you how bad it is and then you know you have to be wary. there is step one.

then the universe reveals it's capable of being worse than bad, and then you just know something is definitely not right and start to question where in all sanity do you reside. this is an indication where religion, philosophy etc stems from to cope. scientists do it too in their own way by gaining knowledge and thereby trying to steer destiny as best as possible.

then with enough life experience, the universe shows you how abjectly, atrociously, monstrously, hideously and unthinkably evil it can be. at this point, what the fuk is there to really respect? respect out of fear and survival definitely, but true respect is out of the question. this universe is shit.

The only problem of being too social is that takes so much time.
It's important to balance with work, rest, family and civic obligations solitary/creative pursuits, education and maintenance chores.
No, you really can't help a child with her homework while both of you are checking your e-messages every two minutes.

As far as science is concerned, it constructs models that align with observation and evidence, and at the same time debunks crazy inane notions like atomic wars by Aliens on Mars.

If a scientific theory is wrong, it will in time be discarded, modified or changed by the very science that constructed it in the first place, and not by any bunch of crazies, YECs, IDers, anti science freaks that like to inhabit public forums such as this, the only outlet for their nonsense.

I don't know how 'one' does that; I suspect each 'one' has to do it the way that works for them. Why should it be tough?
Exactly how does the exploration of avenues of thought relate to the time-consuming, distracting intrusion of social-media preoccupation (or obsession or addiction) into normal daily duties, physical activities, chores and interactions?

Your unfortunate past history and bad experiences were at the family level. How would being more insular have made your situation better?

That fact that your current life (going by posts at least) is negative and bitter as well leads one to believe that being more sociable couldn't be a bad thing either.

You can "party" too much, you can be too concerned with "peer pressure" but being "too" sociable is like being "too" well-adjusted.

More accurately, at least in scientific circles, is that "thinking best supported by evidence becomes accepted thinking". Though, even then, it never prevents reasoned questions and we'll founded changes.

If it's forced (socializing) it can have consequences, I think. If it comes naturally to a person, maybe not so much.

I like being social, but on my terms. When I have a weekend schedule that is filled up with social events ...I get a little stressed. Love to see all of my friends, but I like my alone time.
