I have alot of this condition over the years .

Someone mentioned to use Apple cider vinegar , with mother in the solution . Organic , unfiltered and unpasteurized . In non-reactive bottles , to protect nutrients breakdown from light , through photo- oxidation .

    The ACV that I use has ;

    :No chemicals additives or preservatives

:Unpasteurized , which preserve nutritional value

:contains pectins , benefical bacteria and enzymes

: contains " mother " formed naturally by unpasteurized vinegar ( is not harmful or spoiled , which is the strands of proteins , enzymes and friendly bacteria which gives the product a murky , cobweb appearance ).

: packed in opaque , non-reactive bottles , plastic in my case . Which is BPA FREE .

Further , heartburn is not due too much acid in the stomach , but the LACK of STOMACH ACID . The older you get the less stomach acid you produce . And stomach acid is critical to getting the nutrients from your foods .

So I took 2tbsps ( table spoons ) in 8oz of water . ( try 4oz ) if you can . The less diluted the better . But ACV , is an acid , after all , 5% acetic acid . Hard on the teeth enmmal . So I would recommend brushing your teeth right after drinking , or consume through a straw .

It worked great . No more problems with acid reflux . It may not work for you , but it sure did me.

Warning : I have tried two table spoons straight , the first table spoon was fine , the second , it burned big time , luckly I had chaser of water just in case . ALSO do not take if you have stomach ulcers , it will aggravate the ulcer .

ACV , works is bottom line .

Heartburn is not about too much acid in the stomach but too little .

If little acid is the cause of heartburn , than why my remedy for my system is milk , milk is slightly alkaline

Sure because it coats the stomach lining .

But milk remedy disguises the real problem . Your lack of acid to breakdown what food you ingest .

The ingestive system , it is a system , from your mouth , to your rectum . The function of this system is provide nutrients to the body . And it does so through the ability to breakdown food . Through acids and probiotics .

    "What the research says
Apple cider vinegar could help improve acid reflux in people not taking medications and with minimal risk. However, there’s limited supporting evidence.

One study found that raw or unfiltered apple cider vinegar can prevent heartburn. But more research is needed to determine whether apple cider vinegar is a consistent and reputable way to treat acid reflux."

I'll check back in a few years.

It works . I know through experience .

To my understanding the acidity in the stomach have a Ph 0.5 and your vinegar would have a Ph 4.0 that means about 3 order of magnitude in releasing Hydronium ions for food digestion

Stomach acid has a ph. Of between 1.5-3.5 .

    The ph scale is this ;

    Battery acid is , 1 or 0

    Vinegar is 2-3 , lemon juice , 2-1

    Ammonia is 12-13 , alkaline

What is that for I am familiar with acidity and alkalinity
The low Ph 1.o >>> 1.5 is necessary to activate the digestive enzyme ( pepsin ) as the protein gets digested the Ph climbs to about Ph 3.5 ...4.0 where it gets neutralised at the next stage ( duodenum )

Your , 0.5 ph of stomach acid was way off . From Your post #11.

And really it matters little .

What matters is the efficacy of ACV ( apple cider vinegar ) . It works . And it works just as well as any antacide tablet I have tried . Actually better . These tablets are based on the idea that heartburn is because of too much stomach acid when the reverse is true .

For those who have suffered from heartburn , as I have , try ACV , it is amazing what it can do for you .

    Seriously

The pH of vinegar (approx molar acetic acid, I gather) is about 2.4, bang in the middle of the 1.5-3.5 range of gastric acid.

Acetic acid, being a weak acid, will not add to the acidity of a strong acid solution, as it will not release many hydronium ions in strongly acidic solutions.

For comparison, a molar solution of a strong acid, such as the HCl in gastric acid, would have a pH of zero.

(If the pH of molar acetic acid is 2.4 that corresponds to only 0.4% of the molecules being dissociated.)

It therefore seems likely that in persons with a very acid stomach, drinking acetic acid will not add to the acid present. However acetic acid is a powerful protein solvent, independently of its acidity, which can make it corrosive towards the body.

For me taking an antacid tablet works like a champ. Antacids are a made of primarily bases, usually CaCO3.

For me if I limit my carbohydrates, I don't ever get heart burn
