Christmas is drawing nearer and I can't think of anything I want or need. I don't know what to do. I'm expected to offer up ideas, but I have none to give. I'm quite content right now.
I purchased an Acer laptop recently out of necessity. $350 on Amazon. It's pretty much the same thing I had before, with a few extras. I have been raiding my wife's stash of tea recently, so maybe that's something I might ask.
Consumables? Something to eat or drink, something to go and see? Or how about books? It doesn't have to be about accumulating more stuff, after all. Many of us have enough stuff.
Yeah. It's not that I have so much stuff, it's more that I'm pretty happy right now. I think the best part of Christmas is when we spend time with my brother. We have a White Elephant exchange at his house every Christmas. Last year I came home with a yard gnome. It's nothing I would have bought for myself, but looking at it as it sat on the coffee table gave me a smile. It seems to have disappeared though.
I'm about as unsentimental with regards to, erm, human stuff as one can be--supposedly autistic, or something like that--but I've always appreciated personal, diy stuff more than anything. That's sort of a cliche, but such gifts simply resonate more than anything purchased, no matter how valuable or how much you wanted something. Most people I know are artists and musicians, but one needn't be especially skilled or creative for this. Years ago, a former bandmate/friend got a Rhodes Scholarship and did animation stuff (sorry, I'm a little aphasiac today) in Poland for a time. Her gift to me was simply a photograph of an old shop sign with a crudely drawn dog on it. But it evokes far more memories, images, sounds, etc. than a regular sort of gift possibly could. (Wow. I'm really having problems with wordses today.)
What solves the prollem of gift givin for me is... i find out what peoples favorite charity is an then send 'em a card tellin 'em that i made a $1000 donation to that charity.!!! It demonstrates that i went to the trouble to find out what they care about an backed it up wit the donation.!!! This is a win win situaton sinse im only out the price of a card... an wit all the money i save on gifts i buy myself somptin realy nice Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
You could ask for Christmas itself. Or for St. Nicholas to visit. (Who says Santa doesn't exist? He was a Saint.)
