Me I'm surprised nobody thought to add a post a few days ago Will midnight tonight be 2017 or 2018? I thought about it but decided that the thread is dead and I saw no point Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Among the group that thought joining the military was a good idea, probably none of them. I'm guessing they needed to be taught how to make their beds and shine their boots as well.
I have and you did not miss much unless you like observing folk wrapped up in their own importance. All the characters seemed most strange with personality traits that were somewhat sad rather than humerous. Yet it appeals to some but certainly not my idea of humour. Alex
This was in the '70s and '80s, when military time was not common in CivLant. And boot camp is a test. If you can't fold your underwear according to instructions why would anybody let you loose around nukes? I tell prospective enlistees that the people at boot camp want you to succeed (believe it or not) but they don't need someone who's going to fail at walking in a straight line.
Just a snippet of information about time, on the sideline of the midnight thread here Yesterday 1st January 2018 The Present turned 68 It seems for the purpose of carbon dating after the 1st January 1950 the accuracy was unclear because of the activities of humans had skewed the carbon content in the atmosphere Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Most of our group made our beds with the supplied items and a couple of sheets of plywood nailed into perfect form You sleept with bought sheets and blankets Took less than 30 seconds to organise your bed for inspection Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
It's interesting that in civilian land, those to invent and manufacture nukes don't need to show that they can tell time and make their beds.
Why is it "interesting"? Oh, yeah, Oppenheimer was a highly trained and knowledgeable physicist, in his forties, IIRC. My boot camp company had two guys over 21. Wildly different situation.
So what? I got a wrist watch in 1958. I could make my bed before I started school. Neither of those were up to military standards.
I must have swooshed you bad some time back, you have missed the point of boot camp completely. Well, you have a nice life.
You haven't done anything to me. I understand the point of boot camp. It's to take idiots and make them more orderly.
