So I have been getting phone calls over the the past year that have no available number or identity on my caller ID. When I answer the calls there is dead silence--nobody answers back. Could it be, is it possible, that the dark eternal void that is death has my number?

your account isn't one that raises eyebrows of the grim reaper come-a-calling. there are strange accounts but yours isn't one of them. any more details that could point to a eternal void calling or something unusual?

could be a telemarketer. prankster, stalker, or creditor.

When you say there is no available number, do you mean it comes up as "number withheld", or as a blank? What do you see on your phone with these calls?

"Number Unavailable" At the very least I get a number. Usually I get location and number. Once I got a call that listed my home phone as the caller ID.

I've been trying to convince my wife to cut the landline. We might be the last house to actually have one.

I get lots of these on my landline.

One hypothesis is that they are computer-initiated calls designed to do nothing but track the time of day when homeowners are home, for callback by a real person.

Do you have a Twitter account and get blank messages? I hear DEATH is quite tech savvy
    Or perhaps blank smses?

This is a computer at a scammers' call centre, ringing numbers at a faster rate than the scammers can deal with them. I get quite a few. But often there is someone claiming to be from the Technical Department at BT or Microsoft, telling me I have a wirus on my Vindows computer, oh yes sir. (nearly always an Indian accent) I now have the call protect service whereby I can divert any future calls from that number to a junk voicemail.

If the calls continue after the line is cut, then I would say your first impression of these calls may be in the ballpark.

my son when he was 2 had a plastic play phone and once he was play-conversating and so i asked him who he was talking to and he replied, 'ingo'. i thought that was a literal name of a person but come to find out that 'ingo' is an actual term for when you are not sure or remember the name of someone. i'm sure he never heard that term then as i knew no one who used it at the time and certainly no one around him wh0 would use such slang. it blew me away and a bit disconcerting/worrying. he did once tell me that there was a man in the bathroom once. you can tell when a child is being honest and genuinely shook.

i really hope he won't have to deal with such burdens or if he could turn it around to make him wiser, otherwise society will ridicule such people, so most people don't speak of it. actually a lot of people don't. partially, because they don't want to be ridiculed/stigmatized but also because they know not everyone has the same type of awareness or to the same degree or in the same way and it's useless to try and convince others as well as just as insulting for others to tell you what's not real or real, when they they really have no idea. as in for sure, every possible aspect of reality that can occur or exists, on whatever dimensions

my son turned out to be a genius though and he even invented his own language (complete) with ease around 5 or 6. composed his own music around the same time. he is also very knowledgeable in physics/math/science and it's like second nature for him. he can easily solve the most complex problems.

i knew there was something up with him when i bought the usual potty train and he looked at me as if i was disrespecting him, so i sat him on the adult throne at nine months and that was the cinch. never had to show him twice.

also, there were signs along the way. when i first brought him home from the hospital, at a couple days old, he looked directly at me. most babies at that age are wobbling their head and have not developed focus. i don't even remember ever having to wipe spittle around his mouth area or even wobbling his head.

people always remarked, also, that he was wise beyond his years, even as a young child. he was not only intellectually intelligent but also spiritually sensitive and emotionally empathetic; inherently fair and ethical. these types of people are like proverbial angels on this planet. they should not be denigrated and squashed! they should not be ridiculed for being intelligent, or sensitive or vulnerable. these are very good traits if it's allowed to blossom and grow but this world praises brawn and aggression and cruelty/malice and deceit. it's obscene and terrible.

there are people who have bad character who also have this ability/gift also but they use it in perverted and nefarious means and they are called 'creeps', 'perverts' and sociopaths/psychopaths. it is those who are good but also highly intelligent enough but have a good motive to figure out these twisted machinations of depraved people to combat and neutralize such evil. they help save us all from evil, if society is not short-sighted to damage or limit them. otherwise, the world is screwed and there will be more oppression and evil.

they are invaluable to this world and should be respected, treasured, cherished and nurtured for the lights in this world that they are, not be the target of abuse, misplaced or irrational jealousy or ill will. they are the better leaders or citizens of tomorrow who can make the world a better place for all.

the point being, just because someone may have unusual gifts, doesn't mean there is something wrong with them. on the contrary, it just can mean they have a different type of awareness.

NoMoRoBo deals with spammers for me. It's free for landline phones. Just put your number on their list. Been using it for a year now, quite happy, quite quiet. (One ring and they're gone.)

I do miss talking to the Indian phone centers.

"Your computer is sending distress signals."

"Your mother is having sexual intercourse with elephants in Hell."

    Call ended abruptly.
