No. I'm saying self is a thought, the body is a more basic reality. When you feel peace from meditation, it's lack of attachment to thought. Then the body can rest.

When why do you say it's a "crock" to find peace from meditation?

To find you must seek. Seeking is an exercise in looking elsewhere. The exact place it's not.

Aww, you guys are so cute!

Ben doing Zen meditation since 1968 after reading "The Three Pillars of Zen", incorporated it into my Taekwondo practice in the early 1970's, currently do Sudo styled meditation whenever and where ever I feel so inclined. Sitting in hospital or the doctors office, running down the trail or wherever I am doing whatever.Very beneficial while doing my daily TKD patterns. Also while doing super high detail artwork.

2 weeks ago I did 2 & 1/2 hours of zazen meditation while posed not moving lying on my back undergoing a whole body bone scan. (They were looking for metastases, didn't find any....yet.) I sure was calm and mellow for the rest of the day.

Sometimes you have to not move, Spidey. It is OK as long as you have an active lifestyle already.

An illusion created by the brain.

We know due to experiment that the brain has thoughts that precede conscious awareness by the mind.

    Not surprised

But " precede conscious awareness by the mind " .

    There is a mind .

But it's not who you really are.

I enjoy running and playing with my Yellow Labrador Retriever very much, also my research, work, cooking and housework....pretty much most everything in my life, excepting the treatment side effects. Those are kind-of painful and discomfiting, especially the radiation side effects on my poor colon.

Ever taken "mind altering drugs"? They affect the brain, which gives the illusion of altering the mind.

A collection of thoughts, memories and feeling--all observable by you. But the question is, is the conscience just the tip of the iceberg of something much larger under the surface?
