What's preventing something I believe to be true from becoming true?

Does it matter to you? If people find comfort in believing it's true, why should we care?

    That is an interesting question.

And if you believe something will come true I suppose that is up to you...well of course it is up to you...

It turns on probabilty I expect.

What is the probability of what you believe is true becoming true.

No doubt the fact you believe in something means you assign a high probability.

But as pointed out finally faith, is by virtue of the fact it is faith, means that it cant be verified so I guess that leaves you with the hope all will turn out as you believe.

I sincerely hope it turns out the way you hope.

My issue with religion is merely that it is humans that have decided the facts about God as opposed to God appearing and explaining the facts for us.

Of course many people belief God has made it clear via scriptures but it appears to me scriptures are written by humans and as such just may be incorrect.

Again I do hope what you believe is truth turns out to be as you believe and my cynical view is wrong.

I just hold a view that if there is a God he would make everything clear somehow.

To some they see Gods purpose as clear but I do not.

And even if you are wrong having something to guide you probably is not a bad thing unless you use your view of Gods word to interprete it as meaning you should harm non believers or anyone who does not fit your view of the world.

All the best and as I said I hope it works out the way you expect.

I'm passive. I don't hurt dis-believer but take extreme caution Jesus doesn't need to torment Hell for it to suffer.

I doubt Jesus would send anyone to hell really if he preached love your fellow man.
He seemed a nice guy peaceful and certainly not the type who you would think would punish you with an eternity of horrible suffering...I could imagine a life sentence at the most maybe but not eternity...then parol..but forever I doubt it. That would be very cruel.

But here we (I) go indulging the very problem that I pointed to..speculation...I would rather seek a ruling from Jesus as most folk just make stuff up.

If you asked Jesus about hell he would probably say its nonsense and if it was up to him we could all live at his place...after his dad passes on that is...but see I to have fallen into the trap of making stuff up because it seems a good idea...you see the problem I hope...we all do it and maybe just maybe those who wrote the scriptures were just ordinary folk who thought what they believed was a good idea and therefore the truth and wrote it down...they probably lost sight that they were really just speculating.

I think there is a second coming planned for Jesus so I am going to wait until he arives and tells me what to do...

But dont you think it odd that God leaves us in the dark?

2000 years since his son visited and even he has not been back.

Maybe given all the other worlds out there they got tied up...I mean with billions of galaxies with presumably with billions of planets and other beings you could imagine them doing the rounds would take a long time...unless of course we are the only ones but if we are what is JC and dad doing...maybe 2000 years for them is like a weekend for us and they will be back next Tuesday...which for us is 3000 years from now.

Gee its so hard not to speculate but so tempting and so natural for a human..Its like we speculate better than anything else...well not as good as killing each other.

And dont we make up some good stories.

And characters..think of all the mythical things we have made up...what a long list...vampies, gobblins, fairies etc etc. And the stories..think of the countless books of fiction..

I really dont think God will punish anyone with hell or in any way at all.

He loves us, but that could be speculation.

Say you have some chickens ..pets like..would you punish them because they did something wrong..well you shouldnt..they are chickens how can you expect them to get it.

...wouldnt humans be the same to God..not much more than pets and beyond punishement...see I can't get past speculating..its just a human thing and I wont be the first or last...who out of the scripture writers were free of the afliction of speculation...all of them? Any of them?

You tell me...were they all correct?

The devil is the tormenter of hell not Jesus and only a very small percentage of sinners are evil and awful enough for the eternal suffering.

Really? Politicians in the US are saying that this horseshit overrides the Constitution. That's why it matters.

Diverse beliefs enrich a society, or they tear it apart?

Depends if they are based on reality or magic.

Diverse ideas enrich society. Belief is a low form of idea.

I've learned that religious people can be very intolerant.
