No, it certainly is not. The photograph is much better evidence that there was somebody there. We all know that that happens all the time - something appears in a photograph that the photographer didn't notice when he took the photo. That's why we have the term "photo bomb".

No...a living guard present at the time of the photo would definitely be noticed. Perception doesn't overlook obvious details like this. It would explain everything, solving the photographer's bewilderment immediately.

According to what I've seen, the photo was taken closer to the summer palace than the original claimed location. And there's a path in the background where a guard could come and go pretty suddenly if, you know, he wanted to check out some tourists who were poking around.

Sounds like a contrived story. Think I'll stick with the ghost.

You should get a clue about human perception before you make ridiculous statements like that.

You're working way too hard trying to "debunk" something that's pretty simple.

    I'm still surprised by it.

You're the one offering the debunk. Why isn't it working?

98% of what we perceive everyday is actually there. You have a problem with that?

I just did a 3 second google to see what samurai boots look like. I wasn't even looking for an explanation, nor did I expect such a simple one. I would have expected something more along the lines of Unidentified Foot-like Object.

But there was a simple explanation and you've been tying yourself in knots trying to make something whacko out of it.

As long as we overlook the living physical guard who would've have been standing there thruout the whole event. As long as we overlook that, it seems logical. With that, it isn't logical at all. Living physical guards don't appear and disappear in photographs take seconds apart.

I'd question that number. Did you pull it out of your ass?

I'd also point out that a lot of what we perceive is not what it seems to be. Moving pictures are an example. Hint: they're not really moving.

Did you read what I wrote? There was a path by which he could come and go without much fanfare.

So the guard snuck in thru the secret path between the few seconds that lapsed between the two photos? That's complete bullshit.

That's right. Were you trying to be sarcastic? Did you notice the example I gave? "Moving" pictures aren't really moving.

Our perceptions are what our brains tell us we' re seeing. What's in our brains has a lot to do with what we expect to see and only a little to do with what we actually do see.
