The ignorant savages of the current age are more problematic, since they have a 21 century head start on their predecessors.

I assumed the long dead savages were the ones from 21 centuries ago.
If you want to talk about the comparative moralities of savages, it stands to reason that those who have had 21 centuries to improve on the savagery of their predecessors, would have more time to get the savagery down to a finer art.

You seem to be missing the point that their death ended their progress.

Depends how far back you want to go. The word savage is pejorative, please avoid it.

I wasn't aware savagery was something that became extinct several thousand years ago.

The topic is about the morality of " long-dead savages". I'm guessing that that means the ancient Hebrews. The question then becomes, "Who believes that their morality - e.g. stoning homosexuals - is worth following today?

Once again, it's still not clear that the savagery is relegated to ancient history or that it somehow magically went out of vogue with the advancement of technology.

If my guess about the OP is correct, the morality referred to is clearly savage. We have had a long time to weed much of the savagery out of our morality. The question of the OP seems to be whether or not anybody believes we should retain that savagery because of devotion to the alien overlord that dictated it.

No it's not. It's a word white people use to refer to cultures unlike their own. Many so-called primitive tribes have a well developed set of moral values. I have issues with the values of patriarchal Jews, but they don't represent all ancient cultures.

    It's a comparison.

One can only describe something as savage with implicit reference to something one considers civilized.

    Disagree

were not the Roman's Savage , Viking's savage

Being , Savage , is a state of mind and culture

    No, it isn't.

Do you think the Vikings thought of themselves as savage? Compared to what? They had the most advanced culture, technology and civilization they knew of. They would have considered themselves the pinnacle of civilized.

Only other people invoke 'savage' as a descriptor.
