hhmm... online gaming platform updates... i have noticed that the length of time it takes to intall a game now is eclypsed by the amount of time required to download the updates which the game requires to play. the premis of an independant personal computer is now dependant on continuos paid per view internet access. generically speaking(average household consumer), even if you have a new computer, you cant do anything with it unles your paying for every second to be connected to the internet. the independance has been quietly substituted for depedence(which the average consumer has chosen to support with their money).
I have one PC that is never, ever connected to the Internet. Another is always connected. Both service their purposes.
I have three computers at home, none of them connected to the Internet. I do access the Internet for free at the library and via phone/wifi. I have a vague idea what computer games look like.
Right. Technology evolves. There are no more text-0nly games, for example - because computers now have pretty good graphics.
Is this a bad thing? It is enabling more things we can do, not hindering them. I mean, how many things do you do right now that don't involve the internet? I think you're looking at it upside down. We have far more freedom and power to do anything we want these days than we did a few decades ago. Sure, it take s a little more time - that's no surprise. TANSTAAFL. How much gaming would you do before you want to get the next upgrade to the game? Would you be happy to wait 6-8 weeks for a CD to be delivered?
The people on the Internet are not very friendly. Trust me I know because I was abused (and bullied) by people on the Internet before. I think that the Internet actually alienates many people instead of connecting them and bringing them together. I think that if the Internet was shut down for a month or so then the world will be a better place for many people.
I'm the moderator on another forum, so I get that all the time. Just ignore it. It's pretty easy to ignore text on a screen.
subjective abstinence does not always serve the desired function. Generaly speaking when you expand a premis of authoratarianism into a profit based paradigm of collective grouping you render a product rather than a personality. you could use the example of christmas. would it be equally beneficial to cancel christmass for one year so people would be better off without it ?
