If I had to guess... almost looks like what happens when Google's Camera algorithm doesn't quite get creating a panorama out of multiple similar still frames quite right.

What is wrong with you people?

Magical Realist has declared that photos take accurate, reliable pictures of reality, and, per his criteria, there is no reason to suspect that this photo has been deliberately manipulated for the purpose of dishonesty or personal gain.

Thus, this is a ghost. There are no other explanations.

(Don't worry MR. You'll be back soon. Meanwhile, I got yer back!)

    I checked

The photo was assured not to have been messed with

    Ghost was NOT mentioned

No mention if the photographer was busy and did not notice what he might (should) have noticed (ie if a pair of boots had walked passed or if the cake was being guarded)

Does it look like the face of the ghost has been retouched (to much), or inserted?

This one could actually be a real photo, with the guy in the tree dressed up, with an amateur makeup job.

    But who knows?

Magical Realist: where is the background information and analysis you need to provide for this photo? I take it you will be providing that shortly.

The original was shopped to put a face in it for the "close-up". Not even close to a face in the first one.

    No.
This entry has disqualified itself for analysis by being demonstrably falsified.

As Michael shows, The second picture is not a closeup of the first.

And herein lies a problem: the poster has made no claims that it is a closeup. The poster has offered no explanation at all what purpose it serves here. For all we know, MR posted this here as a helpful example of fakery.)

This is why it is frowned upon to post pics without explanatory text. MR needs to explain why he has posted this.

And this is an example where not posting explanatory text is being deliberately misused - an implication without an assertion.

"Mrs. Sayer and some friends were visiting the Fleet Air Arm Station at Yeovilton, Somerset, England in 1987 when this photo was taken. They thought it would be cute to take a picture of her sitting in the seat of a retired helicopter. No one, Mrs. Sayer insists, was sitting next to her in the pilot's seat... although a figure in a white shirt can clearly be seen sitting there. She told an investigator with the Society for Psychical Research that she remembered feeling rather cold sitting in that seat, even though it was a hot day. Other pictures taken at the same time did not come out.

Worth noting is that the helicopter was used in the Falklands War, but there is no information as to whether or not a pilot died in that aircraft."---- https://www.thoughtco.com/best-ghost-pictures-ever-taken-4126828

“This photo was taken at a wedding by a friend of a colleague. The wedding party was held at an old farm in Norway, famous for being the former home of M. Munthe (a children’s book author). There was no one present at the wedding wearing black, and the picture was taken by one of the guests. The professional photographer had no ‘natural’ explanation for the ‘figure.’ He hadn’t seen any camera ‘glitch’ like it before, and they said no one else was standing where the figure is standing. So what do you think? Could this be something…real?”

The folks on Reddit have several theories to explain the figure in black ranging from slow shutter speed to the ghost of Margaret Munthe appearing to protest (or celebrate) the same-se"x wedding. Check out the discussion here. What do you make of the pic?"----

    as you likely know
there is a specific region of the brain that dedicates its sole purpose to make everything you look at turn into a face and then recognise it as being part of your tribe etc...
that part of the brain is trying to decide if you can eat it, have sex with it or have to run away from it etc etc...

i have seen plenty of images that happen to have a few dark or light spots in a few key positions(99.999% of the time the picture quality is a bit fuzzy) for the brain to suddenly try and render a face out of the chaos.

with pre-loading the suggestive mind to start to "look for a face" that is partial or hidden...
its all a bit of a gimmic really.

if ghosts showed up in real life as they do in photographs they would be mainstream accepted reality as unquestionable proof.

while i do not disbeleive in ghosts i think the criteria to suggest they exist in trendy-wow--gossip-formats is a little over the top for scientific discussions.
Ragical Realist, i am not suggesting you are a flake or a faker im talking about the subject(generaly) as a pop news item not you personally.

now that every person that walks past you has facial recognition on their cell phone pointing at your face regardles if you agree or not...
it renders the entire situation into some weird orwellian distopian nightmare of

faces faces everywhere and not a face to kiss
faces faces everywhere and not a face to miss
    faces faces everywhere
what the _uck is this !

normal society inserting their cell phone up your face without permission

hopefully some benevolent hackers will hack all the facial recognition software that is activated and deduct 10$ from every user and donate it to homeless shelters and food banks

I don't believe in ghost, which are supposed to be the souls of the departed, the soul is claimed to be the essence of a person

Problem - the essence of a person is a PROCESS not a INGREDIENT

Moving past that I am surprised there a so few ghost around considering the thousands who die each day

So ghost have problems they want addressed before they leave this world? And the best way to do this is to photobomb???

Have you tried to tap someone on the shoulders and say "Excuse me"?

Do you agree that the photo you posted in post #604 (link) is a deliberate fake?

This is a great example of how this sort of thing is presented by the promoters of the woo.

Notice that text deliberately primes the viewer before he or she interprets the photo. That is, the viewer is instructed as to what he or she is supposed to see in the picture (text bolded by me, above). The suggestion about what the photo shows is implanted in the viewer's mind, making it more likely that they will agree with the line being pushed by the woo promoter.

Let's look at the rest. We are told that Mrs Sayer says there was nobody sitting beside her, which further reinforces the rest of the sentence and makes sure that we're ready to be surprised and shocked to see the supposedly ghostly figure.

We are told that Mrs Sayer felt cold even though it was a hot day; obviously we're to assume that there's no reason she would feel cold other than the ghostly presence we're supposed to perceive.

That's assuming this is true report of something Mrs Sayer actually said, of course, and there's no reason to trust a third or fourth-hand report about that.

We're told that other photos were taken by they "didn't come out", which explains away the inconvenience of not being able to compare this shot to any others that might help arrive at a correct interpretation of the photo. And once again we face the real possibility that these supposed "other" photos were never taken in the first place, or perhaps that they actually did come out but showed why this photo doesn't show a ghost.

The woo promoter gallops along. Having assumed there's a ghost, he moves on to trying to account for it within the usual mythology of the ghost "movement". Clearly, somebody must have died, leaving a ghost behind. So, the history of the helicopter is told, even though it might be completely irrelevant. It doesn't matter, because for the woo promoter, any vague possibility or suggestion that might explain a ghost is as good is rock-solid evidence.

When faced with this kind of nonsense, the best thing to do is to ignore the promotional text and just think about the photo itself. What are we looking at here?

In this case, it's fairly obvious: we're looking at sunlight (or some other bright light) reflected off the windshield of the helicopter. This conjecture is supported by the additional bright reflection off the front of the helicopter (i.e. outside the cabin, and disconnected from the supposed "ghost"), which shows the same colour light reflected at high intensity. This wouldn't be unexpected if we accept the "hot day" part of the story - bright sunshine etc. The light on Mrs Sayer's face also supports the existence of the bright light source (probably the sun).

There's no white shirt in the photo, let alone one that can be "clearly seen". There is no "figure", other than the one that can be imagined using the vagueries of the imperfect reflection from the curved windshield.

Magical Realist gets suckered in by this kind of rubbish all the time; this is just one more ho hum example of his gullibility.

Arrr but you haven't explained the two black dots (eyes) and the sunglsssun up on the ghost head

What self respecting ghost, especially one of a helicopter pilot, on a sunny day would photobomb without his ghost sunglasses?

I can "clearly" see one of those reflector thingies that doctors used to wear on their foreheads. That's one over-achieving ghost.
