Probably already considered but shall put my hand up and ask any way.
Obviously Climate change science and events are becoming more and more a hot potato.
Would it be useful to have a category set aside titled Climate Change, one that allows all things to do with climate change, global warming etc to be discussed?

In the interests of fora order many climate change threads spread over the entire board could be moved to the new category.
The reason this has come up for me is that I wished to post about recent flooding in France ( deaths at least 11) but felt that posting in "World events" is not really what I wanted to discuss. as I wished to discuss using the France event as an example of a bigger issue, that being those communities built on areas that could become prone to repetitive flooding ( near rivers etc.) in the near future and what that would mean.
Suffice to say that climate change ( water/precipitation levels) is not only about rising sea levels wiping out low lying nations but also about climate change wiping out cities and towns that are located near rivers etc that have never before had an issue of "persistent"flooding in the past.
A category specifically about climate change and relative issues would be a timely addition to the category listing IMO.
    Thanks for reading...

I'm not sure if this board is one of them, but I have been on several boards where Climate Change fora were removed - and the subject itself banned from discussion anywhere else.

It is simply far too much of a political miasma to allow for civilized discussion.

Good suggestion as it is only the most important issue of the our time.

Perhaps it would be poorly frequented but ,what harm it deserves its place on its own merits.

But yes ,too late also seems true although hope springs eternal.

I don't think there is an issue that inspires as much fear and anxiety than the issue of climate change. It is expected that people generally will react in sometimes rather challenging ways when having to confront it.

However I tend to feel that it is inevitable that demand for an appropriate Forum will continue to increase and the sciforums will experience increasing numbers of threads on the topic appearing all over it's boards.
Better is it not, to establish now, a way of coping for the increased demand, by developing moderation strategy and forum policy to accommodate this issue than to deny it, as people all over the world have been doing for decades.
Depending on resources etc. the moderation could be significant yet not unprecedented re: Trump Presidency and other controversial threads for example.

Regardless I feel that it is inevitable and best we get it sorted as early as possible before the next wave of concerned members start to post due to some climate change event.

It is important that people know that they are not alone in their fears and anxieties to mitigate other more serious mental health outcomes.

The world is starting to wake up to the issue ( stock markets, insurers, agriculture, food security, energy security etc) and best be prepared IMO
Perhaps my suggestion is premature and naive.

I would anticipate a large number of new members seeking a vent for their climate change thoughts, "anxiety sharing" and research in the not too distant future . ( if not already evident)

And the usual lot complaining that it might cost them money to save the planet.

    I can see that.

On the other hand, I know of boards where there are designated forums to act as "controversy sinks" so that such content doesn't spill into the other forums. That has worked fairly well. It might work here to keep climate change from popping up all over.

In what sense? Do you mean Gawdzilla? Or the complaining lot?

I took it as meaning there's a bunch of complainers who value their money more than the planet.

will look like a gold 5 star holiday compared to the diseases that increased heat and humidity will bring.

    i second the idea
though add a previso that people always post a link when they state an event and always post a link when refering to questioning scientific principals.

thus saying "climate change is a hoax" is trolling unles you provide links to show the hoax in process just like science posts links about scientists doing experiments.
some crack head psyche patient on a social media bender spouting off for hater clicks to feed off the psycho segragationist right wing conspiracy theory nut jobs is not a scentist.

ive been trying to keep a look out for any news items talking about increases in tropical diseases from the increased heat and humidity.
plus the possible increase in mosquitos... which the
    nile river virus
    malaria
    ...(?)
drug companies should be in talks with governments to look at making pre-order batch loads to store 6 to 12 months ahead of the next summer.

but it seems many more are pretending its all a hoax and that the hurricanes kicking the crap out of the usa and some other countrys are just another day at someone elses office that they dont have to care about when the camera is not pointing at them.

mosquito erradication programs have recently had a boost but they are stil in trial modes in 3rd & 4th world countrys.
with the neo-alt-right-nationalism trending things like charitable work to reduce mosquito propogation is probably being actively dumped.

What, besides anxiety venting, would be the point?
I mean, what would be discussed?
Way too late for "What each of us can do," but maybe not too late for "How to pressure our governing idjits".

Perhaps impacting on climate change is currently lost cause, but if governments and private sector act now and build appropriate facilities a small percentage of humanity might actually survive long enough to turn it around later.
Money is worth something today but when shit hits the fan it aint going to be worth anything.
There is much to discuss IMO.

Example: How many persons would be the minimum to ensure survival of the species? (Netflix 100)
Creating egg and sperm vaults etc...for invitro later to ensure genetic diversity....and so on. Creating an ark of archived genetic material and so on...( Lost Horizon Zero Dawn video game)

How ever currently the more immanent threat of an environmental tipping point (threshhold) may be worthy of discussion. How soon? Is there time to prepare? ( The Day After.)
