Yes, vitamin C is important. You can take too much and injure yourself. Water is even more important. You can drink too much and injure (or kill) yourself. Oxygen is even more important. Too much will injure or kill you. People love to overreact, even when it does more harm than good. "Drinking water is good? I will drink two gallons A DAY! It will flush toxins! Improve my skin! Help me lose weight! And if that doesn't work - FOUR gallons a day!"
Hemochromatosis, mineral imbalance, kidneystones, diarrhea, damage to your flora, and diverticulitis for example.
Hemochromatosis lets start here ; how does too much vitamin C have anything to with this condition ? It seems more of a lack of vitamin C than too much .
Hemochromatosis (too much iron) is caused by too much absorption of iron. Vitamin C increases absorption of iron. From Medline: ============= Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) increases intestinal absorption of inorganic iron. No reason exists to discourage patients from eating fresh fruits and vegetables containing vitamin C, but advising them to limit ingestion of vitamin C in supplements to 500 mg/d is prudent. Use mineral supplements for specific deficiencies only. =============
So how does a non-absorbable form of iron get into the blood ? And how does vitamin C allow this to happen ?
Both organic and inorganic iron are absorbable. ?? It doesn't. You can, of course, process it to make it absorbable.
