Nope. They proved lightning, water and air (as it existed back then) could create the building blocks of life without any intelligence at all required. (Unless you believe you need Zeus or a similar deity to create lightning.)

How did “they” say those elements create these building blocks?

"They" being Miller, Urey and other researchers?

The energy in a spark (i.e. lightning) allowed reactions between simple molecules that formed the more complex chemicals. (Ordinarily, thermodynamic considerations prohibit such reactions.)

So after briefly checking into the experiment results, not extensively, it looks very cool, and the information I read said that 22 different amino acids were formed with a particular man made mixture of gas and lightning. Nice!

So it appears that we would currently have to extrapolate and basically speculate quite a bit to get from here to life of any kind.

This does indeed show that man has the ability to create a selection of amino acids from a mixture of chemicals and lightning under lab created and controlled conditions.

    In other words by intelligence.

I would like to know how much power was used if anyone knows?

It was an experiment that expressly simulated the same conditions with NO intelligence (i.e. lightning in early Earth atmosphere.) That's why they did it. No one is proposing that scientists 4.3 billion years ago created amino acids this way.

Funny how theists forget: They believe that God created life from non-life.

I think you missed his point.

No, I got his point. "It took intelligence to set up that experiment." It misses the mark.

Not by intelligence. He reproduced theoretical conditions that might have existed in the early Earth.

And, BTW, scientists have recently performed a similar experiment that resulted in RNA, a molecule that may have encoded the first life.

We had to come from somewhere.

I guess it depends, amongst many things, where one perceives the main ingredient as coming from ... which just so happens to be the focus of this thread.

Maybe (the jury is still out on that).

At any rate, checking in via research and evidence and argument the whole time - doing science, in other words, to find out how what we see has happened happened.
Nope. They already knew how to create amino acids by intelligent manipulation. What they showed was that amino acids would self-assemble under conditions expected outside the lab - without being intelligently manipulated.

    What's the "main ingredient"?

Are you going to start talking about unevidenced souls and the like, now?

    God.
I mean the big hold up on the abiogenesis front doesn't appear to be a dirt shortage.

It would be, if dirt were necessary. There was no dirt, as we know it today, until long after abiogenesis.

But instead, it's the three billion years of elapsed time since it happened. Makes figuring out what happened difficult.

This thread is about the evidence of life coming from non-life (see the opening post). God is unlikely to come into it, seeing as evidence for God seems to be in such short supply.

Notice that the thread is in the biology forum, for now. If this turns into a religious discussion, it may have to be moved. I had assumed it was a scientific one.

Ok I will take that as an invitation to ignore sideshowbob when he goes off topic.
