I never turn on the television. If I do watch it, it is because somebody else is watching it. NetFlix? I have it, but I don't bother with it. I seem to have lost all interest in popular entertainment. Is there anyone else who feels the same?
my working day is about 15 hours. that only gives me 9 hours to get sleep and do anything else. i cant sit down and watch a tv program in that amount of time so TV is useles. out of a selection of 20 tv programs i am likely to only like 1 of those. when i have a few hours off, i do not want to waste 25 minutes in every hour watching adverts.
When with my wife, we mostly watch what she likes. She has fairly good taste, and manages to find stuff that intrigues me. So we have our shows together. I am terrible at finding good stuff; I just stay in my zone. I occasionally find a show I might like but she's less interested in mine that I am in hers. But that's partly because TV content is not really important to me. When left to my own devices, I will tend to leave the TV on one station for the entire day while I putter about doing my projects.
I don't have cable TV anymore. There is a TV still left in my living room. It's like a piece of furniture. I don't use it. I do watch some TV via the internet/computer but there's about 3 programs a week that I'll end up watch at my convenience. I also watch some clips that make it to YouTube (news shows or documentaries). I watch some Laker's basketball games after they have been broadcast but usually I just watch the highlights. So, it's not like I have no exposure to what's on TV. I don't pay for any of it and I don't just sit watching whatever is on TV just for the noise (like I used to do).
I have not had a TV since I got married, in 2001. I get my news on the web or the radio (absurdly now called "Sounds" by the BBC) and I read the Financial Times for commentary. The only thing that would persuade me to get a TV would be if test cricket were to be televised once more. But as the English cricket authorities have sold their souls to Murdoch, so it is only available on paid subscription channels, cricket has passed out of my life.
When they switched from analog to digital signal, I was without TV for several years. I didn't miss it much. (I did watch DVDs on my computer.) Now I have two channels and the TV is on much of the time, though I'm always doing something else too.
I don't know why anybody would sit and watch programmes with ads. What a waste of time. Most of the TV I watch these days is pre-recorded on a PVR. On rare occasions I watch catch-up internet TV.
You didn't have a "can go weeks without watching it" option. Nowadays the only time I see a TV is in the airport or in a break room.
Ive always had free over the air tv an i have 5 TVs in the house... an as for commercials... i use that time to p or serf the web.!!! I have never paid for tv or bout a dvd or VHF tape... an most of the grate stuff i watch ("Preecher" right now) is on DVDs from the Liberry... an i usualy have a tv on for the noise... but i turn it off if doin a Bidness call on the phone or doin Bidness over the web.!!!
I may snatch one or two hours of tv in a day. The thing is, in most of that time I seem to be channel hopping. Plus I have one tv and three remotes??
when i get the chance to watch tv somehwere else(i dont have tv at home) i like to watch the culture & art programs & science documentarys & also very well put together pieces on human culture specificaly human rights aspects and foundational elements of cultural evolution & development. i find being able to watch an arts program from some other part of the world and other culture really helps expand my mind. i try and include it at least once a week(via the internet)
