My daughter and my X play Skyrim firstly on
a play station but moved up to a gaming computer as the decapitated heads roll better and the blood is more realistic.

The up side is they are totally desensitized to killing and understand the importance of sensible weapon choice.

Mind you its a while since I have seen them play.

I was playing chess there for a while but I had to stop as it was becoming enjoyable which could lead to unproductive mood swings.

Finished a third run-through of Skyrim a whiles back, am currently revisiting Half Life and Half Life 2 Episode 2.

If I won the lottery I would pay Valve to finish Half Life 2 Episode 3. One of the best games ever.

I never *got* how people became so addicted to it? A friend met a bloke on it, she is 65ish, and not too bright, but lovely, if she can play it then that's why it became so popular!

    lol

Yeah, Skyrim, completed it in 25ish hours? But the game is massive(1000hours) with the downloaded missions. lands etc. I have it for my VR system, but I just can't get enough time. Oh well, I will one day!

You download community made addons, like what you just desribed, you probably already knew that.

I love Chess, but find it very difficult to play online, maybe I would get used to it. Don't play much but I was decent when I played alot. Saying that a kid 13/14 at a Chess club beat me. Very very lucky, but still better than me in that game. Maybe we can play sometime? I'm on chess.com. davewhite04 is my username.

How many hours did that take you? I've got a 1070 on a 1080p resolution, and I never game on it! If Halflife 3 came out I would. The wait was terrible for 2! I bought a graphics card with a free copy of Halflife 2, a voucher, the release was supposed to be imminent, I swear I waited well over a year to check in my voucher. Yeah bring the PC the best games ever, the Halflife series back from the dead.

something is hinky with my graphics so i am not running anything new at the moment.
i am only getting about 50 to 60% performance out of what i have and yet to really figure out what is going on.
i suspect i have several issues that can only be solved by money above my current disposable income level.

i notice several different older games dont seem to be able to freely move the in-play-graphics, running around 3 GB per game app

i am yet to try and find out if the game graphics drivers are hungry monsters that can never get enough, or if it is poorly written to give windows all the control(loosing processor speed and capacity between the operating system & the game)
or if it is other issues.
finding an accurate answer to that question will be EXTREMELY difficult.

with working an average week of around 50 to 60 hours i find i am always pushing computers to run faster and faster.
i may have 30 minutes or 30 seconds spare and will want immediate response from what ever i am using.
thats quite unrealistic i understand but with using soo many different types of basic systems its hard to try and figure out what would be considered base line pushing the boundary's as getting an accurate answer to such performance issues around software and hardware seems to be more an ART among computer engineers than a science among enthusiasts.

suffice to say i need to upgrade and/or fix something

I taught myself when 11 using paper cutouts for the pieces ... at 12 I could beat everyone in high school including the teachers.
Playing a human is easier than playing a computer as you cant bluff a computer.

I burned out my video game organ on Williams' Defender in the 90's.

Then, it was Riven and SimCity.

But, here in the 21st century, I have actually found an entertainment use for my phone.

I play Kakuro (AKA CrossSums) while waiting to pick my wife up.

Other than that, I neither play nor have any electronic games.

Sim City was class. I try to game as much as possible mate, I've loved it since the Spectrum 128k, this system blew me away big style.

Many other interests but gaming will always be No.1.

what i type is about 10% of the content

i need to try and repair a graphics card which may be a HDD controller malfunction or mother board fault
i dont want to buy a new mother board.
i dont want to buy a new graphics card(unless it will resolve the problem)
i kinda want to upgrade my ram but something has never seemed to run the ram properly even when it was brand new.
it seemed to get sticky with windows the more i upgraded windows.
    the more unstable it became.

i dont really want to run a different operating system underneath and then have to look at tripling the cost of ram to have a converter sit on top and then have to learn to code the converter and base OS to adapt to the ever updating bullshit compulsory updates for games.

i also cant afford the $1000 to fix it.

im fairly sure windows will probably be upgraded soon and that new upgrade will crap all over previous faster systems to force people out of the independent OS market.

the sheople seem happy with 3 crappy computers(cell phone, tablet, laptop) instead of 1 really top quality desk top & a phone.
    but thats sheople for you.

the games market is now a online dating web site for corporate profile predators
no internet connection ? cant play your game !
    wtf !

Have you tried using your onboard graphics port? take your graphics card out and use your onboard one and see what problems go away? it won't be good for games. if you haven't tried, I would install Windows again.

I play on my ps4 and I got my account blocked(shocking), I couldn't play any of my digital ps4 games or the one in the disc drive! I don't own my ps4!

AMD 8 core cpu, 32 gigs of RAM, Sound Blaster audio card, AMD Radeon 7900 video card, NEC PA 301W monitor at the recommended 2560 x 1600 pixels. All a few years old now. Its an artists' monitor with a slightly slow refresh rate for gaming so I get a few artifacts, but worth putting up with for a 30 inch high-res picture.

267 hours on Skyrim, 295 on Fallout 4, Half Life 40 hours thus far, Half Life 2 took 36 hours, episode 1 took 12 hours, episode 2 - 14 hours thus far. Did most of the Myst series as well, have them all but they got too slow after experiencing the others.

As a geezer, I figure that games that work my reaction time and intellectual strategy skills are personally profitable and thus a justifiable investment of my time....as well as mucho fun!

    2560 x 1600 not 1440?

I've just bought a 2560x1440 upgraded from 1920x1080 amazing price £220 32" I use it mainly for internet these days but was playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided and thinking "this is awesome" it's like light years ahead of the 4k ps4. Because I have the details on high, the ps4 uses the standard 1080p textures. I'll playing the Division 2 when it is released with a buddy, great fun looking forward to it as we enjoyed the first one

There were years when I worked pretty much all of the time so nowadays I figure I can afford play time as I go along.

I think it is good for me as I enjoy gaming quite a lot.

    It's this monitor > https://www.necdisplay.com/p/pa301w-bk

    Old, but still quite serviceable.
