How long are the tracks? There's no scale in the photo.

    Cipmunk, retracing its own tracks.
Only, it should be asleep. Was there a mild couple of days before the fresh snowfall?

My cats never smudge their tracks like that; they're all perfect five-point landings, palm and four distinct toes. In snow, I would also expect them to be bigger than this. Maybe a kitten, running?

Ther are chip monks in our area but i dont recall any out an about at the time.!!!
I thank ther was a bit of freezin rain over some snow... an then a bit of snow on top of that in which the critter made its tracks... an then ther was a bit of snow after the tracks were made which woud make 'em apear a bit smaller.!!!
As far as no smudges an "perfect five-point landings"... did you notice in the video that the cats hind paws landed directly into its front paw tracks... which woud acount for more than 4 toes per track.???
The videos i saw of cats walkin in snow didnt place ther hind paws into ther front paw tracks... just this one walkin on sand.!!!

I don't think those are footsteps.

Maybe something more akin to hopping? Like a chickadee's belly. But not really.

That's what I was hoping for. Getting people to see something other than footprints.

I think it is a very light animal. Though I can't be sure, the snow looks quite light and fluffy. Whatever made it did not sink into the snow more than a few mm.
Birds are proportionately lighter than terrestrial critters of comparable size.

I thank ther was a layer of freezin rain on top of some snow... then a thin layer of snow on top of that... so even the weight of a cat coudnt leave a deep print.!!!
The "snow" on top of the freezin rain was mostly tiny snow pellets.!!!
The tracks went on in perty much a strate line for about 60 feet from my drive way to a road.!!!

    And it's so symmetrical!
    This is what I see.

Eight elongated radial dents surrounding a little rimmed crater.

Well thats close but the real pic shows how it actualy looks... ie... at the lower right two "dents" are larger an rounder.!!!
I thank its the track of a rear paw (at a slightlty diferent angle) directly over a front paw track... just like the cat walkin in the sand.!!!

Sorry, I see no resemblance at all with that example of a cat walking in sand. Nor can I figure out how you do.
The sand is too shifty; feet leave simple conical depressions, with no detail at all.

That being said, only you know the provenance of the picture. For all we know, you watched your cat make those tracks, and are having fun with us.

Emagine the print it woud leave if a cat walked on a thin layer of snow like the cat walkin on sand.!!!

He mentions the sunflower seeds. It's not much, but it's something for scale - if not for measurement.

    Sunflower seeds, size.
    Approx 23mm long on average.

Tracks are 1.5" diameter and 4.5" apart.

    Dave - "Why Emagine"

Cause the pic you show is not how the cat in the sand is walkin.!!!
