OK, I live in Canada so New Zealand is halfway around the world. Wake up that day, still groggy, having a coffee and look at news on the internet. See the headlines, something apparently news worthy happened, but twitter, Facebook and Youtube are taking the actual footage down. A pet peeve I have is people trying to limit my access to information. Hence, I find it, download it and watch it...

Did anyone else do this, or, have comments about the video?

    No.

Like are strict gun laws a loosing battle as the future goes on? 3D printers can make guns, guns and more guns.

The man in the video obviously had skill with firearms and this provokes a reminiscence of complaints about first-person-shooter video games after Columbine high school shooting as he live streamed the thing in first person.

    There's also Trump: https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/16/politics/donald-trump-new-zealand-white-supremacy-muslims/index.html

    Much more as well.

The thing is, the shooter deliberately recorded his actions for the benefit of those white supremacists who like to watch Muslims getting killed online.

But you aren't one of those are you? So why did you want to see it?
Have you also downloaded and watched ISIS beheading people?

Before Trump was elected in some ways you could say that I thought racism was a myth. After Trump was elected it was an eye opener to see how rampant it is. I didn't like being politically naive that way. When I woke up that day the media attention was telling that something large had happened and I was already hearing some false accounts. I don't know how soon it got on TPB but since it got there that pretty much means it's not going away and not watching it is in a sense willfully turning a blind eye to racism. Ignoring the political realities of the world we live in.

I think that the shooter live-streamed his actions in order to feel like a somebody rather than a nobody. It's the same reason he mailed out his "manifesto" to various sources. Above all, he wants his 15 minutes of fame.

All the recent mass shooters are the same. They crave the publicity and the notoriety above all else.

I think the media needs to stop giving these people what they want. Their names should never be mentioned. Their photos shouldn't be shown. Their self-justifying excuses shouldn't be handed around like they are important. All that stuff just encourages the next unhinged attention-seeker.

We should have sympathy for the innocent victims of this killer. This story is about them, not about him.

Was the aim of this video to invite retaliation through emotional reflex? The two extremes can feed off each other with the general public cannon fodder.

I like to be informed too. When did that become a cause for veiled accusations?

Agreed, to an extent. Factual reporting (names, dates, what happened) only. No specials on the shooter, or interviews with his family, or publishing of his manifesto.

Kellyanne Conway just said that everyone should watch the killer's manifesto in its entirety. I'd prefer it was ignored.

The point I'm trying to make, and JamesR seems to be doing it too, is that some people do things and post videos of it because they want you to watch it.

If you don't watch it, are you denying them something? Will they feel less enabled or something? I mean, the deed's been done (and dirt cheap!).
Suppose a pedophile made an online video of children being sexually abused, would you watch it to be informed?

    Red herring.

"White Nationalism" is growing globally and has a significant role in Donald Trump's base - he doesn't seem to rebuke it as much as other world leaders.

James mentioned the "media" whereas I had previously mentioned TPB (ThePirateBay). This is not something like social media, it is something Google, Facebook and Twitter have no control over. That video is out there and not going away unless say there is a global political climate change. Would the video have even been made if Trump, the most powerful man in the world, didn't embolden White Nationalism?

I only downloaded the horrendous video because it was the quickest way to get to the truth. Before that I listened to a commentary about it that went on saying things about how the police were in on it, numerology and stonemasons.

I still can't come to terms with how someone (video) would do that, but I'm just me. I may not understand it but at least I know such vile hatred exists. Such vile hatred that is a political force.

If that was the point you were trying to make, it went awry.
It came across as an accusation as to why BwS might want to watch horrible things.

While I acknowledge the principle of not giving the perpetrator any more attention than necessary, the pitfall is sticking one's head in the sand, and ignoring what's happening to the world.

Possibly it did, but I don't accept my point going awry.

Look, I didn't go searching for this fuckhead's video, or develop an interest, I know what's on it without having to do that. I know there are people eager to watch it for ideological reasons, I know there are people eagerly watching ISIS videos too.

I also know I could go to a local freezing works and watch animals being slaughtered, skinned and boned, all day probably. I don't do that either, and I don't work in one or have any other reason to go and watch it. I still know it's happening though, because I have seen it . . .

Neither do I. You haven't coherently made a point, yet, red herring.

I went searching for the video. It was in the news a lot. And no, you don't know what's on the video do you?
Hence, not having watched the video, you presume you know more about their ideological reasons then they did before and after the video? Yes, I wish I lived in a fantasy world where there is limitless sex. But, as I indicated, that video is out there for everyone and anyone to see, globally.

Sounds like something you may masturbate too. Would you think of others masturbating to the shooting video?

walk me through your logic on this.

emotive ethereal which allows the application or subtraction of many polar concepts and ideas.

inversely proportional to freedom to choose by implying a sense of required path to conformity expected
    reverse psychology.

is this racism or just a political difference of opinion ? i sense an intention to marginalize by you to attempt something... what? more people to respond[look im giving you an easy out]... or maybe this is your ego attempting to placate its self.
world view change. that's a big thing.

no doubt you will have associated emotional and processing concepts that are attached.
... "am i alone?" (is this an attempt at self justification?)

now this is the interesting part

you assert an impending/expected/socially implied right to have access things on the internet.

is that right equal to the rights of others to their privacy ?

there is a bit of an undercurrent of victim shaming around interviewing family members for tv of such things.

that greedy mercenary lust for a related-new-news-pieces to be different,(& the Americanism of being 1st at all costs) renders journalists into being psychopaths & sociopaths.

the odd journalist i have met many years ago consider themselves to be accountable community minded social justice orientated society/community/public servants seeking to give clarity to the common people.
i doubt they would like to be sat next to gutter journalism and considered equals, swimming around in the ego sewer of narcissistic sociopaths.

and so here in lies the real question...
if it was 2, 12 year olds having sex on video like some porn movie.
would people be still demanding it be allowed to be accessed ?

is the right to privacy not equal to the victim ?

The video is tied in with global politics, it took me two or three clicks to get it and that's without using mainstream social media or some special interest site.
