Thinking of buying an Apple watch, but not sure. A few of my coworkers love theirs, but I'm torn. Anyone here own one?

Hey. If I'm a God, there'd better be a lot more bowing and grovelling...

We need to get back to that "ole time religion".
Those people knew how to worship. Can't find that kind of enthousiasm anymore...

Again Carlin had the perfect solution while balancing the national budget at the same time. Very creative.

This interests me, as I've never understood what the point of this would be. Looks to me like a solution in search of a problem.

What would it do that is helpful?

how much does it depreciate once you buy it ?
    90% ?
    can you re-sell it ?
is it actually yours when you buy it ?
a cheap LCD watch with a fancy shiny plastic coat of paint for how much ?

how much do they cost to make in china ?

why are you paying new york high street prices for a chinese mass produced digital watch ?

Yea, I’ve been ignoring the hype with these for a while but there’s something about it, I like. Maybe the aesthetic appeal of it? A deterrent for me is if you need to have your phone nearby, what is the point? (Although, depending on the series you buy, that might not be the case) It offers a function that tracks your movements for workouts etc which is nice, but I use an app for that on my phone. (tracks cycling, hikes, and runs)

Funny thing is, I’m not much of a watch wearer so I can see it sitting on a shelf collecting dust after the novelty wears off.

@RS - that “disposable” watch is pretty cool that you posted - I could just recycle it when done with it. Nice.

it costs the chinese around $10 US$ to make an apple smart watch
apple sell them for $550.00 US$

apple watches are soo ugly, but not ugly enough to be cool.
it must take an awful lot of corporate man-baby-boy splaining ass kissing to produce such an artless piece of tech

fit-bit make the same type of watch which looks way better without the cell phone pairing and sell it for around $100.00 US$

That's rather what I thought. The only function I see regularly mentioned is the fitness thing which, as you say, most people who want that sort of thing can get on their phones already. It may boil down to whether you want yet another device that does more or less what your phone does, but worn on your wrist. I'm not sure why that is an advantage. Presumably not much good for typing text.

From what I read, and my own experience, we are all probably far too "connected" already. What we should probably all be doing is finding reasons to leave the phone at home or turned off, rather than manically acquiring yet further channels for filling our lives with stress and vacuous communication for the sake of it.

I find my attention span goes up enormously when we go to the family house in Brittany each summer. I can actually read romans policiers in French, (with a dictionary and Bescherelle to hand), something I never have the patience to do in London. I stop worrying about things and sleep better. I am sure a big part of the reason is that there is a lousy phone signal and I leave my laptop at home.

I got two of this style, red, by buying 6 boxes of a particular breakfast cereal

Difference with them not rechargeable runs from a button battery

Have a yellow one bought in China about $40, has a pop out display which sits in a small holder and plugs into a USB port to charge. The pop out display has become a fallout display with a small rubber band holding it in

A black one has pull off, from the display, strap to reveal the USB plug in

I've stuck with the yellow one

It has a vibrating alarm function. As soon as I wake up to the alarm I check my pulse on it. If it is a reasonable distance from 0 I get up

It can be an advantage because when you're running/hiking/cycling, it's a bit cumbersome to have to find a place to carry your phone without dropping it, and I've never liked the arm phone straps, because it's not easy to navigate through your song list. Such petty problems, I know.

Good advice, and agree with you.

That's great! I've stopped bringing my phone into restaurants when meeting with friends for dinner, etc...and while I'm the only one at the table not staring at a phone, it has helped me to become more present.

Okay people, I'm not going to purchase the Apple watch. Posting out loud here, has helped me realize that my reasons for wanting one, are somewhat frivolous.

Game of Thrones’ series finale just concluded... not quite what I expected. Actually, a bit disappointed. But for those who haven’t watched it yet, no spoilers.

I stopped buying $10 Walmart watches when I started carrying a cellphone.
I can track my workouts on a calendar.

I'm speaking more of an app that calculates and assesses your activity in progress, as you run/hike/cycle/etc. I use one on my phone, but there is still the issue of carrying the phone while I'm working out.

    lol

I use an app on my phone that tracks distances, time/pace, etc and then a chart is automatically created at the end of a week, month, quarter, to show your progress. The watch is convenient, in that it's easily manipulated (during a workout), being worn on the wrist. But, I'm probably not going to get it. :/
