With "Chernobyl" mini series playing now this is appropriate.

I wish I lived in a city that had a subway system, like NYC.

    to term a phrase
    emotive haptic feedback actuator
while some are motivated by medals, new numbers, different colours, different groups, superiority among other people, chemical reactions...
exercise is a highly complex and very miss understood and miss directed science.
all those advertorial exercise machines should have the world in the best shape ever.
    but they dont.
much like pyramid systems dont make everyone rich.

apple are not about to de-couple their smart watch from their phone because they know they can squeeze out half a new phone sale price from a new phone buyer at 4900% less cost.

    it is good business

adding charts and other things that feed the sense of self attainment are in effect an addiction process.
feeding this addiction process directly undermines your long term ability to maintain your fitness IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR ADDICTION.

    never forget that.

you can be a functional addict, but you have to admit and understand your addiction.
only then do you gain control over it and become capable of using your own addiction to fuel your desired results.
without understanding your own addiction you just endlessly seek some new plastic toy to feed your need to project transference of your addictive motivator.

systems like Alcoholics anonymous and all the different copys of the same system work on comprehension of the drives of the addiction.
    that's great.
but remember those who go through such programs and become functionally rehabilitated are a small fraction of the over all number of people with addictions.

starting exercise programs directly connects to addictive processes in the body by triggering releases of normal chemicals that are and can be much more powerful than most average drugs when combined with culture and common behavioral norms.

do not confuse peoples lack of emotional maturity/capability to cope with such subjects of discussion with scientific facts.

After decades of using a wallet-sized pad of paper and a tiny pen, last month I finally gave in and installed a To-Do/Calendar app on my phone.

I hate it, because it's not organized the way I think/work; I use it for one reason and one reason only: because I'm tired of losing track of my to-do list / calendar and never having it with me when I need it. At least I never leave the house without my phone.

I do like living in a city with a subway. It gets all those people off my roads.

how could it be soo hard to make an app that resembles a note pad concept.
instead they try and manipulate the buyer instead of adapting the tech software to them.
not everyone wants a one-touch-post-my-bedroom-camera-to-face-book-and-the-world button on their social media profile.

Oh, I’m not addicted. I often workout without using any app but find it helpful if I want to improve my speed or increase my distance and speed, depending what I’m doing. But just working out for the sheer endorphin rush, no gadgets involved, is quite awesome. But thank you for your info.

Sometimes, I envy birds. They can fly away at a moment's notice. But, they do have to hunt for their own food. There's that.

But, that flying away thing is awfully appealing.

The cashier at the grocery store always asks me, "Did you find everything?" My standard reply is, "Everything I could remember, " and hers is, "You should have a list."

Well, I used to have a paper list - it was at home on the fridge. Now I have a list on my phone but it only has things that I bought last week and don't need for another month.

I was standing on a footbridge once when I saw a sparrow flying full-tilt directly at the railing. At the last instant before hitting the railing, she did a loop-de-loop and landed right on it. I don't know if she was short-sighted or what, but that seemed like a convenient workaround.

And yet the critters continually bounce off the screening around my porch, looking all confused.
('course, I did buy the premium "invisible" screening...)

Robert Downey Jr. decided to be addicted to "exercise and healthy living". He does obsess.

Fifty years ago today I graduated from high school. The next day I got the hell out of Indiana, thanks to the USN.

Hive mentality seems to be pervasive online these days. I wonder why it seems to be more apparent online, than offline. Granted, we see it in politics, and certain sectors of the media, but damn - it's really a bore.

It's the human version of "quorum sensing" in bacteria, which provided the proto model for the hive mind phenomenon.

Is it? Or is it just more visible?
When we all lived in small towns and didn't have access to the opinions of hundreds of millions of strangers, we still had "mob mentality" - it just wasn't so in-your-face as it is on social media.

In a town of a thousand people, you might find one or two that shared your particular pet peeves. Not really enough to start a rally. But the internet has allowed us to access hundreds of millions - - and of those hundreds of millions we can select with surgical precision what ideas we want to boost. We can find tens of thousands of people who share our views. And that's enough for some serious synergy (AKA publicity).
