    Well, there's the thing.

Is it OK to place rules on someone because of what's hanging between their legs? What happened to 'if they're qualified to do that job'?

Hmm...I like being feminine. I don't look at life and think that I need to compete with men to ''be somebody.'' That's not a healthy message for women to hear. To keep striving and competing for traditional male roles, as if that is a defining moment. I just think we need to stop viewing people's worth by their profession/vocation. If a woman wants to become a priest for example, she shouldn't be applauded because she is ''doing what men do,'' she should be applauded because she has worked hard to get there. I think the same for men.

But, it's a weird message that many women receive -- we need to compete with men, be like men, be better than men. I don't want to be like a man. I just want to be respected for who I am, and be treated equally to men in terms of rights.

The gender balance in America is roughly 50/50. Every woman age 18 or older has the right to vote. Where have we gone wrong?

So... as long as it doesn't affect you personally, you don't care?

If Catholics were going crazy and boiling their children alive, yeah, I would care. I personally don't care that Catholic men and women choose to worship their god under a patriarchal system.

    From a male perspective

    I loved being a midwife

With some of the crazy stuff going on I, personally, would be outraged if some idiot trying to tell me I cannot be a midwife

So I am waiting for a female pope soon

Slippery slopes and all that, though. The slope actually started with religion...and just trickled into mainstream society, imo.

It's impossible to take on the world, making every facet our business. But, slippery slopes can eventually cause us all to slip, you know?

I think you're forgetting that there's a woman in this picture being oppressed. She is being discriminated against based on her sex, for a job she otherwise qualifies for.

So I ask again: So... as long as oppression doesn't affect you personally, you don't care? The rest of the world can burn?

Well, like racism, laws won't eradicate bad thoughts. Despite the civil rights progress in the US for example, racism is still quite prevalent. Despite the positive progress from feminism, there will always be misogyny. I wonder if society will ever be rid of it, but awareness is so important. Your posts can be sexist sometimes, but maybe you can glean something from these threads that can help you at least empathize with another viewpoint. I try to do that with views that differ from mine.

i have never preferred misogyny as a main issue
i much prefer it to be neatly dressed up on a side plate with its own cutlery

in a them or us society, it is easy to subjugate women as the other.
it renders their ability to oppose their fascism to a mere gender divide that can be shown to be occurring on both sides of the debate simply by having a women oppose the man for the leadership
they label the women as being untrustworthy and underhanded and emotionally unstable.
once that is done they then target the man as being the sole owner of dirty politics and questionable family values.

this allows them to directly undermine the other side
this is how the republicans have fought the democrats.attacking women for being women.

    it seems to sell well.

Misogyny and sexism show themselves in a variety of ways, from subtle to overt. I think that we only think of the overt types, but trust me, there are some subtle sexists among us, and unfortunately, I have to deal with them. It's like they just can't have a conversation with a woman, without thinking she is incapable of completely understanding what they're saying. I know many men who don't do this, but there are those who do, and it's disheartening when I run across it.

I guess this is why someone cleverly came up with the term ''mansplaining.''

We went wrong a long time ago, before the US was even a country. Women were property; they couldn't vote, couldn't refuse sex with their husbands, couldn't work at many jobs and couldn't own property in their name while married. Things have gotten much better since then. But we still have a ways to go, as we are seeing in places like Georgia and Alabama (and the White House.)

litigious counter point of comparative moral judgment via gender conformity
telling them wont solve the issue though

    BTW, women can mansplain too.
While men do it a lot, it's not exclusive to them.

The act of mansplaining is generally to over-explain something to someone, talking down to them, as if they have no clue, and as if anyone else likes the sound of their voice as much as they do.

My wife, for example. sometimes does that to me about things she knows a lot about, oblivious to the fact that I know quite a bit too and don't need to be patronized.
