Is it wrong to have sex for fun, knowing it might possibly lead to an abortion?

You just said you would NOT act as God has acted in history.

    I think you are conflicted.

Treat others as you wish to be treated. Accommodate others if you are in a position to do so, and help others if you can. Beyond that, decide what you want to do, and do it.

    Pretty simple really.

Of course I would NOT act as God has acted in history. I am only a man.

    I am not Him.

I do not have a perfect perspective of the world like He does, able to balance everything at once.

I don’t know for sure, but I doubt you are equal to God in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. And I think you would have to be in order to accurately judge Him.

But you apparently do it anyway, as a finite being, good luck with that!

I used to do the same thing.

I used to judge God myself. But, no more!

    I wish you well!

I sincerely hope you judge correctly.

    Sounds great to me!

Where did you get that from?

How do you know it is true?

So you say you get your morality from how God acts, and your decisions are guided by his. But you don't know why God acts as he does and can't see how he makes decisions.

Again, you seem a little conflicted there.
So now you see that sometimes it's moral to murder babies, because God did it. We can't know why he did, but he had his reasons, so there must be reasons that make it OK.
A great many sources. My parents. My school. The Sermon on the Mount. The Qur'an. A book on Wicca. Experience from living my life.
Morality is not true or false. It's not math.

I agree that the Golden Rule is a good place to start!

But why do you regard the Golden Rule as being true?

And where do you go from there?

Can you quote the post (and give the post number) where the claim that that the Golden Rule is "true" was made?

    Er...
So what you're saying is that your moral basis is that of "god" but you wouldn't ACT the way "he" (allegedly) did because you're only a man.
Presumably that's because, being only a man, you don't actually have the power to cause a world-wide flood, devastate entire cities, get bears to maul small children...
But your "moral basis" is still that of "god" right?

Like you, I attempt to love my neighbor as myself. And I love what you wrote!!!

Those are my marching orders for life. That is what I have been commanded by God to do! To love others!

Are they really that different from yours?

But I add, love God with all my heart.

And yes, I fail at both of them.

You are welcome to call that “conflicted” if you wish.

It isn't "true". It just works. It's part of the social contract.

God in history, means that He is real.
If He is real, I think I better obey Him.
He commands me to love others.
So I try and love others.

But, I am a crazy person!
So don’t read anything I write, OK?

Probably not, once you get right down to it.
I think the conflict I see is that you follow God with all your heart, but call something he did evil and heinous and you'd never be OK with it.
So you kill gays when you get the chance? Or do you disobey that command?

I'm always amazed at people who are incapable of abstract logical thought, advancing the idea of an abstract intelligence that intentionally rules the universe................

No, my brother Kevin was gay, and I loved him while he was alive. I miss him very much. He died from AIDS. His lifestyle choice killed him.

But he gave his heart to Jesus before he died. And I will certainly see him again and give him a huge hug when I do.

I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. "God" hasn't been shown to be anywhere; "in history" or otherwise, so your assumption that he's "real" remains just that - an assumption.
I agree. IF he's real. Which has yet to be established.
That's what you might well believe, but it's not a fact.
Given that you haven't actually addressed anything to do with what I wrote I will concur with your self-assessment.

    You are right!

Sometimes I am stupid, and make wrong choices. There is pleasure in sin, and sometimes I succumb to it. I wish I was perfect but I am not.

When I mess up I ask God to forgive me.

    No it doesn't.

Is the thesis of this thread premised on God existing?
Because that should be stated up front.
Without it, God is merely one argument, and it's an argument not granted by many.

There are many examples, but one of them that really blows my mind is the account of the Exodus in the Bible. The accuracy between what is written down in the account and what is on the ground still today, really blows my little bitty mind apart.

Am I allowed to discuss peripheral topics or will the thought police shut that down?
