Dear Sigmund, what are you trying to say?

this is a very interesting concept
your desires are ALWAYS your undoing, as they are most always the motivation for action.
when that action has a negative outcome, you have been negatively impacted by your desire.

the other question is about how you attempt to manage the issue from your Ego perspective.
many people can only just lie to their ego and pretend that the experience was not negative.
they layer lies upon other lies to try and fool themselves.

    anywho...
if you think like some others, you use their flawed logic
    use your own logic
be creative with a strong focus on fiscal prudence & minimalisation of risk to assets and savings.
dare to invent yourself into a hobby
but dont dare with your house car or retirement savings
many ordinary people are trapped inside their own sense of ego so daring and risk involves challenging their own ego by the reputation their friends have of them
they need to stay the same person or they lose personal self worth.
such is the same for bad marriages.
    very very common

i thought i better answer personally rather than muse your intellectual talking head of Freud

I try to find it where I am. Right now it is replying to your question. In a few moments it will be me standing outside smoking a cig. Later, it might be at the drive thru at McDonald's and then eating a Sausage and Egg McMuffin. I can't really be certain where you might find happiness next.

Haven't a clue what Sig would say about the above.

    Living in the moment, yep.

But, does smoking really make you ''happy?''

    Okay.

I like Nietzsche because he keeps it real.

I wish I had never started, but yes, I thoroughly enjoy smoking.

It? Not sure what that is.
Which of his works do you feel best exemplifies this quality of keeping-it-realness? I've only read a couple, so I probably missed it.

    happiness comes in 2 types
    Type 1 good
    Type 2 bad

most people do not care which one they are choosing until someone or some thing holds a mirror up to them as they hold the mirror up to someone else.
then it all gets really weird.

yet look at the most successful artists
they re invent themselves and truly adopt the other personality as part of themselves.
fans are aww struck by their ability and creativeness

The Transitory want of the nature of the current desire is always superseded by the success of the longer journeys euphemistic goals(mostly).

Most people do not attain specific skill related higher achievements. they simply notch up travel points along the way.
    THAT reality is changing, slowly
the millennial generation is the 1st generation of human recorded civilization that must be skilled at constant social & intellectual adaptation.
only the fat lazy elite can afford to not be adaptable.
they specialize in it as a personality trait equal to common criminal psychology whom are stuck in early teenage mental development catastrophes.
they just wear different priced clothes and go to different party's.

self judgement in its self is always a trite event of contemporary fancy

Why? If you dislike his views, I won’t change your mind.

dancing around the edges is still talking about the subject.
if your not happy to unpack some of it then you probably should not get drawn into the conversation.
even if it pushes some of your buttons for self development.
open your tool kit, not your engine room

I enjoyed Zarathustra, but found very little reality therein.
Was bored to death by Beyond Good and Evil; can't recall its reality content.
Can't remember anything about the Meditations, except gloom.
Still don't know what wegs means by "it". If you do, please reveal.

Why what? What views? I asked for a recommendation, because you found something in his work that I had failed to find. Granted, I was quite a lot younger when I read philosophy; I may understand more now - if I know what "it" is that I should look for.

I don't know of what little I read of Nietzsche, it was just a book published by the Modern Library. I just remember thinking: pfft if you're going to say something, say it and don't waste my time.

A friend of mine who takes philosophy and likes it told me I'd have to understand his earlier works to appreciate what he was saying.

Ahhh, gotcha. Something got lost in translation, so I will find some of my favorite things, and share with you.

For starters, I like his take on suffering, and how we should find meaning within our suffering. For that, is perhaps the purpose of life. I also like his comedy as it relates to women, although it at times, comes across as charm. He seems like he struggled to understand women, I wonder if he ever mansplained. That might change my view of him.

mansplaining was an expected display of conventional male logical thought association.
it was required in command and control positions and required to be displayed for show in times of confusion or struggle.

''Expected?" Go on, this sounds interesting.

Yes, that helps, but even more important is the period. The late 19th century style of writing was far more elaborate than what became mainstream post-Hemingway. Ideas that were radical in 1890 had all been discussed and explained and lectured to death by 1970.
Well, there we have a big problem. Suffering should be avoided if possible, alleviated where possible, endured only if necessary - and never, never ennobled, sought, inflicted or celebrated.
