Well, we didn't get the thousand years of darkness Chuckie Norris promised us in 2012, so...

Lets face it. The universe is a dangerous place.

There are so many things that can cause human extinction that it's impossible to tell where the next danger will come from.

It could be an asteroid (or asteroids), it could be a rogue planet or even a rogue star. it could even be a mass pandemic or a technology which fell into the wrong hands.

The future has already been written. Humanity will surely become extinct one day. Nothing lasts forever.

And when humanity will become extinct then all of the knowledge we have discovered and amassed in the sciences, technology, the arts, culture everything... will be destroyed eventually during the course of time.

Homo sapiens sapiens may become extinct but that does not mean we will not evolve into something else (or somewhere else). And it does not mean our culture and knowledge will be lost.

I pretty much believe in the, "Great Filter" and sadly, I believe it is still ahead of mankind. Sadly, as well I tend to believe we will not make it through it if we remain on Earth solely. Maybe nukes or bio warfare will do us in. Maybe an asteroid.

We are sitting ducks on this planet (as a species). We have zero redundancy against a major catastrophic event on Earth. The sooner we expand outward to space the better. Ideally, in multiple directions. Then multiple catastrophic events would be required to wipe us out!

If using all of our Earthly resources, as quickly as possible, insures our species expands out to space quicker. I am all for it!

Actually I think humans deserve to become extinct.

We are a shitty species and we make life very miserable for one another. We also treat each other poorly.

I think there is nothing humanity deserves more than extinction.

Humans have contributed nothing to the earth but destruction and greed.

We have caused global warming as well as caused hundreds of animals to go extinct.

We are mean selfish beings who don’t deserve to inhabit such a beautiful planet and live with such delicate creatures.

We should simply cease to exist.

    Wow
crazy runs deep in here some days!
    Are you human?
    ........................
    Long ago and far away
I heard a crusty top sergeant admonish a young lieutenant saying:
"Lead from in front" ......(long pause)..............."sir"

    .............................
    better still
figure out your carbon footprint and plant and nurture enough trees to neutralize it.
    then

    Reduce
    Repair
    Rebuild
    Repurpose
    Recycle
    (in that order)

    ........................
    Meanwhile:
If you send more than 2 lbs or 1 cubic foot of stuff to a landfill each week-----------you are part of the problem---Fix that first.

You can choose not to reproduce and help that along.

However, overall, over the past few centuries we have gotten considerably better, which is cool.

Not much better for me at least.

I live in extreme poverty and I see no way out of extreme poverty.

My life sucks big time. I have even tried to kill myself several times.

I'm probably going to jail for many many years and after then I will be homeless because I don't have the money to buy a home (homes are expensive).

What future? I have no future that's what I am telling you.

I don't see a future for me, at least not a future worth living.

I felt like that at age seven. The Y-donor had tried to kill me and failed. I knew that it would just get worse. But I survived long enough to join the USN and wander the planet as I had always hoped I would.

So don't give up too soon.

    That was sarcasm.

You can plan for the future, and change the course you are on. Or you can go to jail and then be homeless. Your choice.

The Rich Are Different, it has been said.
But soon gene technology will begin to offer them the opportunity to be REALLY different.
To have their DNA improved, perhaps by having the wasteful junk DNA removed.
Childbirth is an often painful and sometimes risky procedure for humans: the advantages of a large head fight against the limited size of the birth canal.
Humans have much to gain from becoming marsupials, through incorporation of kangaroo DNA.
Babies could be safely and painlessly delivered into an adjacent pouch at the end of just a few weeks gestation to complete their development.
In fact, I think this may prove to be the thing that polishes off homo sapiens.
Wealthy women begin to have the genetic operation, become homo saperoos, and have many more children than those relying on traditional childbirth.
The genetic modification is transmitted to future generations (of both sexes) of course.
It is a case of the survival of the most fecund.
Saperoos triumph and the progressively outnumbered old homo sapiens species goes the way of the ape man.

Human action or natural causes? Hmm. I think human action will cause it. As long as we don't end up like the series, The Walking Dead...

Humans lingering around without electricity, meager medical supplies, running water...having to scavenge for food...whilst on the run from hungry zombies, might be worse than extinction.
