    Sancho wonders whether all debates are formal on sciforums.

    At the risk of speaking for mods: no.


    There is a "Formal Debate" sub-forum, which has its own debate rules.

    But generally, the forum rules say "...we retain in all areas of debate an ethos of respect for the scientific method, which demands critical analysis, clear thinking and evidence-based argument."
