    These are two names. Eli has a long i at the end, while Ali has a short i at the end. Why the difference?

    different linguistics
    arabic AH sound is different linguistics to
    judain "ee" sound of the latin I

    it is commonly mixed together and people hear both used often
    however they are both quite different

    etc ...
    the arabic I is pronounced with a closed sound
    the latin I sound is pronounced with an open sound
