I was thinking about that film too.(kind of an Emperor's new clothes film in the inverse) I think actual intelligence may be a measure of how we use the information we possess and not a measure of how much information we have. Wasn't there some anecdote about some person who was fluent in a dozen languages but had not a word of interest to say in any of them?
You do realize that's a spoof...? How many stupid people have you met in person who could be spontaneously witty? I suppose there is a different bar-setter in every discipline, maybe every department. Probably not business, though. There, I imagine each man thinks he himself is the gold standard. Forums, too.
On another forum,I quoted Einstein and my post was replied to incorrectly attributing the quote to myself. I may leave it as is and leave my contribution the the Equivalence Principle there for all to see. https://www.scienceforums.net/topic...nal-mass-work/?do=findComment&comment=1125178
What ,me leaving the quote? Me trying to be funny. If you are asking about categories of meaning ,only context can answer that.
Thanks for hitting the nail in the door with a hammer. I was not asking about stupidity or ignorance. I was asking about cleverness/wit being considered as a measure of intelligence. I started by saying both, cleaver/wit are both signs of intelligence (my step-fathers case was to show my intention was not "nefarious"). I am not sure where politics could be brought into the discussion based on my posts. People that do not know this man think of him as being smart based on his wit. People that do know him see him as a shallow person with no curiosity or a person that parrots what he has already heard. Just because this one anidote has ME focusing on MY stepfather. The question still remains. Do people view being cleaver or witty as a measure of intelligence? Is that the same as being "smart"?
Wit is when you use your intellect for fun. Go to the post that you wish to delete then hold your right Shift key for 8 seconds, then hit Yes.
https://arstechnica.com/science/2017/10/scientists-investigate-why-crows-are-so-playful/ That might be to that point. (well it goes into why we - and crows - might do things for fun)
Not a measure of. Impossible without. Doesn't know left from right. I don't know how people view cleaverness. However, average or higher intelligence is a prerequisite of wit and cleverness of any kind. Yes, 'smart' is just a simple, inclusive word for all forms of intellectual attainment.
I think the point is that it was the stupid people who thought he was witty - i.e. the perception of wittiness says as much about the audience as it does about the wag. White people make an intelligence test that makes white people look smarter than black people. Is that because white people "are" smarter? Or is it because they aren't smart enough to see how smart black people are?
If my recollection is at all accurate, they thought he was wise/knowledgeable, rather than witty. And that was done with a good deal of contrivance, to fit each utterance to its expected context in a script. Yes, okay, people can easily be misled by what they wish to hear. Neither this manipulation nor the cinematic one affect the meaning of the words, or the exercise of intelligence.
There is also a moral intelligence. How do we measure such things? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
