I am alive, I have subjective experiences none of which are alive, in and of themselves, and will totally vanish when I die

Sounds like you believe the PROCESSES which comprises subjective experiences continue to operate after death

Somewhat like a belief in soul or ghost. If those two do not fit your belief what would you class you belief to be?

No one said subjective experiences were, themselves, alive. That's a preposterous straw man. As I said, it's irrelevant if one continues after the death of the other. What matters here is whether the two differ in needs. That is all that my contention relies upon. Read it again: http://www.sciforums.com/threads/do...meaning-bother-you.162293/page-5#post-3610072
Are your subjective experiences only composed of the physiological needs of your body?

Personally I don't seperate the two - psychological / physiological

The body needs air water food and a method of getting rid of any waste produced

The brain, a sub unit of the body, ditto. If those needs are met the brain is able to operate. Brain operation consists of chemical / electrical reactions which are called thoughts

While it is possible to detect and record the chemical / electrical operation of the brain and, in broad terms, show where sections of the brain specialise in particular task, we cannot tease out thoughts from the recordings

Since the brain is only a sub unit of my body I do not understand your seperation of the mind (not the brain) from the totality of ME

IF I like to be alone - with a crowd - middle of the ocean - middle of the desert - it is ME

It is not my physical body having its needs met with the mind (not the brain) signalling 'I want something else'

I come as a package of ONE

So you have no preference what kind of food or how it tastes, so long as it provides your body with the requisite energy?
You have no preference of colors, like in your clothes and if they match, so long at the body is amply protected from the elements?

Or you claim that somehow, mysteriously and unbeknownst to science or your conscious experience, the body needs its clothes to match and hamburgers rather than pizza on Fridays?

You're the one distinguishing the mind from the brain, not me. If you want to say the psychological life exists in the brain, that's fine with me. Again, that's immaterial to whether the brain has different subjective needs from the objective survival needs of the body.

And if you want to just call it all "ME", you're simply making a bare assertion instead of an argument. That's your prerogative, but if you can't justify your beliefs, it's pointless to hash 'em out.

    Yes correct

    Because they are different

Are you saying they are the same?

Psychological life does NOT exist anywhere

If YOU are staying psychological life does exist please explain how it differs from plain ol' common life

Couldn't answer a single one of my questions, eh?
I can then only assume that you either don't have subjective food, color, etc. preferences or that you really do believe nonsense such as your physiology needing matching clothes.
If you can't comprehend objective physiological needs and subjective needs, that's a chasm I doubt anyone can bridge.

    Hopefully ignorance is bliss.

    Could, but can't be bothered

Much the same as yourself not answer my questions a few posts back

Your post here, and I note in other threads, in large part don't make sense

Going back to Original Post, no it does not bother me in the least life has no meaning. In fact you can expand my lack of bother to include the whole Universe, which I contend is in existence totally devoid of meaning

How many times do I have to tell you that it doesn't make a wit of difference if they are the same or not?
But your avoidance of relevant questions tells me all I need to know.

Yes, because then there would be no happiness, and death is a scary concept.

    Original post

Does the possibility that life has no meaning, bother you?

Can you explain how a objective meaning to life creates happiness?

    death is a scary concept

I would put death in the - Inevitable Reality - basket

Lovely circular logic. "I'm important because I decided I'm important."

    You are not important.

    Fair enough

    So you have no concerns

    Stale mate

    He decides he's important

    You decide he is not

On the bases he is closer to information about him than you, his decision stands, yours dismissed

I see this life as the afterlife to the other side.

That does not seem to to make sense

    The other side of what?

If you are thinking THIS life is the other side (ie something PRIOR) then prior to this life, ie prior = before I was born

Are you contending I EXISTED (on/in some other side)? before I was born

    To much for me

You are welcome to try to explain and put forward evidence
