That was a good response...an honest reply, I think.

    You are complaining.
You are simply whining at this point, Dave.

Every turd is sacred. That's actually funny.

    And yet...

OK. At one point, we respected each other.
I respected your recent conversion to faith, and lauded you on the fact that you seemed to retain a degree of good-heartedness.
I've continued to engage you, even in some of your more dubious posts when others mock or ignore you

But perhaps your conversion did not in fact make you a better person, or at least a nicer person.
I've been wrong before. It was nice while it lasted.

Perhaps less judgmental and more forgiving. Regardless, I really love myself to no end, and find value in the strangest places. The sound of rain on the hardtop of a trailer is worth a million dollars, believe me. It's also how you know your in God's presence.

Preaching like this is a breach of our site posting guidelines.

If you want to make an argument for your beliefs, that's one thing. If you just want to preach as if your beliefs are self-evidently true then you'll be in violation of our posting guidelines. A different forum may suit you better.

You can always counter my statement by simply saying a star is just a star and a turd is just a turd. The preachy thing is getting kinda worn out.

I was just thinking about that this morning. A few years ago I had to fix a window on a trailer where water had been coming in. They had already pulled off the inside paneling to pinpoint the problem and they had decided that the stud next to the window needed to be replaced.

When I pulled out the insulation, I discovered that the problem was much worse than that. The outer sheathing (chipboard) came away in handfuls, like wet straw. I had to pull off two sheets of metal siding to get the sheathing off and I had to rebuild a four-foot section of framing.

It did cost less than a million dollars though.

    Edit:

I should mention that I was thinking about it because it was a bit windy yesterday. From my window, I can see a shed that had all of the siding ripped off one side. The sheathing underneath looks exactly like that water-damaged trailer wall.

Chipboard...you would think we could graduate to a better product by now.

You haven't made an argument. Don't you get it? That's the entire problem. What you have done is to post what you regard - for some reason - as a self-evident truth, but it's really only your assertion or belief.

You've been posting a lot of that stuff lately.

If you feel that our site posting guidelines don't give you the freedom to post about your faith as you would wish then, as I said, maybe this isn't the best forum for you.

But it's so obvious, right there in front of you every day. Yet you really can't see it? Dude, it's not my problem that you're blind; otherwise, this wouldn't be an issue.

    It's knowledge, James.

It's obvious that God is all things, both high and low?

No, it's not. If it was obvious, there would be no atheists, assuming we're talking about normal, sane people.

You really can't demonstrate it, can you?

What you're asking is for me to just take your word for it, with no objective evidence to back you up.

You're trolling again. Please stop it.

If you can demonstrate objectively that your God is real, that's all well and good. I'll be happy to join you in your belief once you do that. If, as seems far much more likely, you cannot, then you calling me blind is about as useful as me calling you delusional.

No. Knowledge is things that you know, not things you pretend to know. If you can't demonstrate that what you claim is knowledge is justified then at best you have a belief or a faith. Don't mistake that for knowledge.

You are quite free to believe whatever you like, about gods or anything else. But this is a science forum. We try to discourage preaching here. There's a whole section on this sort of thing in our site posting guidelines. Are you really unaware of it after being here for so long? Have you ever actually read through the posting guidelines?

Look, here are some helpful extracts from our guidelines:

E13. Appropriate supporting evidence or explanations should be posted together with any opinion, especially on contentious issues. Sciforums is not your personal blog, and should not be used to promote your unsupported opinions.

E15. Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. If you’re claiming that Einstein was wrong, or that evolution does not occur, or that aliens are visiting Earth, be prepared to provide strong evidence in defence of your argument. If you only have an opinion, avoid posting on topics such as these.

I24. Preaching is giving a sermon, often but not always of a religious nature, stating how people should or should not act, as if the sermon itself were self-evidently true.

I25. Proselytising is attempting to convert others to one’s own beliefs, often with threats of adverse consequences if one refuses to convert.

I26. Evangelising is where the poster’s main aim is to spread the word about his or her beliefs, without being interested in real discussion or critical analysis.

I27. The moderator team takes a dim view of propaganda, preaching, proselytising and evangelising. Engaging in these activities is not guaranteed to get you banned, but you do so at your own risk.

What did you think trailers were made of?

Plywood was once the material of choice--much better than chipboard.

So you enjoy the sound of raindrops falling on your roof and you let the chips fall where they may.

Well, perhaps it is a matter of opinion (even though I'm right). Is that still allowed? If I lie and tell you it's my opinion, will your world be safe again?

This has nothing to do with my world being safe.

If you simply want to take one side on a contentious matter and assert that your side is self-evidently true, then you're on the wrong forum.

And by the way, you did it again, just there in your parentheses.
