That is a decent way to think. I hope it all goes well and please check in often so I don't worry about you.

Make masks compulsory that must help..not for protection as much as containment. That seems a no brainer to me.

Now folk can tell me why not.

Compulsory masks for a month should control it if not see it all over.
OK the objection no doubt not enough masks... Make your own bank robber style.

Yesterday late afternoon my temperature went up a bit, as expected, but only to 37.5C. Slept far better last night and this morning temp is normal. Cough practically gone though I do now have a slightly rough-feeling larynx. Apart from that and a bit of the usual post- 'flu' lassitude, I feel fine.

One point possibly worth noting: muscular aches and pains seem quite severe with this virus. I was talking last night to my doctor brother. He and his wife suffered something rather like what I've had, after flying back from France recently, but without any discernible cough. The main thing he noticed was the aches, especially between the shoulders, and feeling tired. He commented that various celebs who have had it and shared their experiences all seem to mention this sort of thing. In fact I've taken 2 doses of paracetamol now, both of them in an effort (successful) to relieve muscular aches in my upper back. So maybe this is a characteristic of it.

A friend who has had it a lot worse than me says it can come in waves, so I may find I am not out of the woods yet. But so far it has not been a big deal. Makes me think there must be thousands of undiagnosed cases almost everywhere. Which is good in a way, if it builds herd immunity.

I don't feel quite ready to be culled for the good of the herd.

Day 3: temperature has stayed down for 24hrs now, cough practically gone, just a bit tired from time to time and a few remaining aches. I'll stay off the booze one more day to make sure, but maybe from tomorrow can treat myself as over it and, even better, perhaps even fully or partially immune. So then I can help other people with their shopping etc. I am allowed out from next Thursday onwards.

It would be nice to be able to get tested to confirm I have really had it, while I am still giving off enough viruses to yield a +ve reading, but tests are in short supply and not available for such trivial purposes, I'm afraid.

Thank you. In hard times, it's good to know we can depend on the support of our fellow man.

Day 4: Temperature still more or less down (excursion to 37.1 mid-afternoon) and no more cough....but something new. Between lunch and dinner, my sense of taste and smell disappeared: anosmia. I noticed when cooking dinner that I had no idea how it smelled, even the raw garlic. Unusually, this has occurred in spite of no blockage or discomfort in nose or sinuses. Clearly the virus has not quite given up and has a few more tricks up its sleeve. So no wine today for me after all -and it would in any case have been wasted since I can't taste it.

My doctor brother tells me anosmia is coming to be recognised as part of the characteristic suite of symptoms of Covid-19. It is quite frequently reported, apparently. Anyway, another data point......

Thanks, exchemist. It's both interesting and instructive to hear directly from someone who is going through it, when we've been hearing so much about the disease from people who have never been close to it.
My neighbours hightailed it home from Arizona (where they usually winter) and have been in voluntary quarantine for a week. Fortunately, their daughters live nearby and can do emergency shopping for them.
Our much older friend who lives in a senior's apartment complex is under lock-down. She says they haven't had any casualties in her building.

It's somewhat hard to believe that the above exchange transpired just one week ago. (As of now, Hawaii is quarantining all new arrivals for 14 days.) Presently, nearly a third of the U.S. populace is under lockdown, as is much of Europe. I read a piece in The New York Times today in which an "expert" answered email queries regarding interstate travel. At present, no restrictions--with respect to contiguous states--however... considering the fiascos that are Florida and Texas (and perhaps a few others?), such might not be unreasonable. Considering the freakin' idjits partying on the beaches of Florida up until, like, two days ago, and that the vast majority of those were likely returning to countless other states, well... We've really just got "lockdowns" and "sheltering in place" in name only, with no meaningful data as to the actual numbers of those who are and are not complying.

Indeed. A week ago, we were still considering whether our Cuba vacation (next Friday) was in jeopardy.
Hah! We don't leave our house, let alone the country.

Your post is rather old and no doubt things have evolved for you since you posted so the following may be unnecessary but perhaps useful to others.

One thing I would like to suggest for your consideration is to ensure no one other than the ones who constantly sleep there, enters your home (re: item #9) and that if you need to meet someone do it outside and apart. (Use a marked drop zone for receiving or sending packages)
I have a sign on my door saying "This apartment is a quarantine zone" and no one is allowed inside except my flat share tenant and I. ( and first responders, police etc. of course. )
No friends, no girl friends, no family visits, no real estate agents. Then you can relax knowing you are in minimal risk where you spend most of your time.
It is not just the oral transmission but the bringing in of the virus by touch etc...and no point upsetting your partners cleaning efforts. If she is a medical services member her health is of paramount importance and by default so is yours.

So far everythings looking great...the hoarding by idiots has dropped off, people do seem to be staying at home, except for essentials...just one drawback...they have cancelled the NRL football!

I voted not to participate in the poll because I have been having similar symptoms for nearly 10 years so I simply do not know any thing until I am tested. I assume that I am infected and contagious regardless, and live accordingly have done so since our first confirmed case 25th January. (Imported from Wuhan) treated here about 5 kms away from where I live.

Good to hear.. The keeping a safe distance from potential viral sources including people, surfaces, shopping baskets, trolleys, cash money ( use a debit card that only you touch) will almost guarantee your safety.
The sports should have been shut down ages ago...they only now announced the Olympics are to be postponed. Terribly underestimating the situation has been a major problem for governments and groups. And Now we have this USA president terribly underestimating the situation in the USA.
It is so sad and tragic I can barely read the stats...having monitored this from onset so closely.

This is as interesting subject. The more I think about it the more I think that everyone just has to assume they have it or expect to get it (whether that's true or not).

I totally agree with the 2 week or 4 week shut-down occurring most places. I do think that the economy can't just be ignored and that all news shouldn't just be doom and gloom.

It's so infectious that most people probably will get it to some degree. If you go to the grocery store and buy food you can be infected and you have to eat. You can wash you hands often (and I do) but you can't wash every container that comes from the store.

If it's truly that infectious you are likely to get it. Once enough people get it, the others have a chance of not getting it and it dies a natural death.

Shutting down the entire economy for too long can be worse than the initial problem. I think we have to do two things at once. Try to shelter in place and limit hanging out in groups and finding a way (through testing) to limit those most at risk while finding ways to keep some business/jobs going.

Just because Trump is an idiot and has said something similar doesn't mean it has no value. I think that general idea is what many/most people have had in the back of their minds. I know it's something I was thinking about long before Trump uttered something vaguely similar.

Sort of. Getting non-infectious people back to work should be our highest priority - which means testing EVERYONE.
Oh, agreed. Trump saying something doesn't mean we should do it OR we shouldn't do it; the right thing to do is completely independent of anything he says. Indeed, the best thing he could do for the country right now is go golfing for the next month.
