oh ok.. Alzheimer, dementia, Paranoid Schizophrenia old folks home. Lock down. Not that she is particularly old , the nurse I mean. Her work involves elderly psych patients. High risk age group.
Says the method keeps them hydrated and offers a little protection as well..

This sort of attitude is in itself very dangerous as well... and worth discussing if any one is up for it...
for example , that image I posted shows 100's of people all grouped together with out any facial protection ... is that good thing?
Should we promote the use of masks if we can?

How many transmission could have been prevented if they all had masks on And how would wearing a mask change their poor attitude to social distancing?
UK currently has over 8,000 confirmed and fatalities over 420

Well in that case you are not doing too badly, compared, say, to some of the people in my dad's nursing home. Though my dad, thankfully retains, his wits - mostly.

    Well lookie that...
Just arrived on my desk c/o facebook news feed...
Enter local crafters, who are joining a national movement to try to help fill some of the gaps. They're sewing specially-designed, washable cloth masks for use over N95s — to extend the use of the scarce commodity — or as an alternative for disposable surgical masks.
    https://www.npr.org/local/305/2020/...ters-sew-masks-to-support-health-care-workers

They only have to do it for the general population and suddenly high grade masks will be plentiful for the people that really need them...
I don't think it will be long maybe a week or two and people will innovate as they usually do...given that there is nothing else they can do...when they go shopping or jogging or walking ... etc

She said at best it does nothing ("harmless") and at worst provides a false sense of security, so that people do more risky things.

Let's say someone said "go to church and pray for forgiveness; hundreds of people did that and were cured!" Would you support that as well, because no one has proven it doesn't work? Or would you consider it at best a waste of time?

So as it turns out there are two places that COVID-19 infects first. The primary place is the lungs. The second most common place is the GI tract. So it's quite possible that swallowing warm water frequently will MAXIMIZE infection rates.

    From Elemental:
    =========================
“What typically happens is that there is a period where the virus establishes itself, and the body starts to respond to it, and that’s what we refer to as mild symptoms,” says Mandeep Mehra, MD, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and chair in advanced cardiovascular medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. “A fever occurs. If the virus establishes itself in the respiratory tract, you develop a cough. If the virus establishes itself in the gastrointestinal mucosal tract, you’ll develop diarrhea.”

These very different symptoms emerge depending on where in the body the virus takes hold. The novel coronavirus gains entry into a cell by latching onto a specific protein called the ACE2 receptor that sits on the cell’s surface. These receptors are most abundant in the lungs, which is why Covid-19 is considered a respiratory illness. However, the second-highest number of ACE2 receptors are in the intestines, which could explain why many people with the coronavirus experience diarrhea.

“Because the virus is acquired through droplets, if it comes into your mouth and enters your oropharynx, it has two places where it can go from there. It can transition into the lung from the oropharynx when you breathe in, or if you have a swallow reflex, it’ll go down to your stomach,” Mehra says. “That’s how it can affect both sites.”

I suggest you take that up with the front line medics in Wuhan...who have witnessed the benefits first hand.

This is debatable... the incidence of Fever is not common according to many sources. (yeah I was surprise to see a number of symptom charts that considered fever as uncommon.) so your source has now lost significant credibility for misleading the public into a false sense of security. ( and what is worse is that like Trump, he has a large audience)

The Harvard professor has misled the public in to a false sense of security as now people will not consider them selves at risk unless they have a fever.
You have to remember to provide links to support our quotes...

    Try this:
    Proposed Announcement/regulation:

"To reinforce the urgency of the situation, the wearing of spit masks in public is now mandatory. Any one caught not wearing a spit mask in public will be given an on the spot fine "

The general public MUST not underestimate the urgency and severity of the situation like many governments are doing.
By making spit masks mandatory the message is clear... social distancing is imperative! The majority of people would get it loud and clear.
Spit masks are easy to make and cost very little time and money and mitigate face touching and spitting on people when talking, coughing or sneezing.

Not good! Please consider that the virus has been in your town for some time and many more will be infected. Incubation period between 4-22 days..(?)

Trump seems to think that filling the Churches on Easter Sunday will work miracles....as an American voter do you agree?
I don't think many have died from COVID diarrhea....
I'd rather breathe easy and sh*t easy that be in a bed sucking on a ventilator

    On a positive note:
Here in Australia we are preparing for our annual flu season which officially starts next month.
If people maintain social distancing and isolation requirements the number of people infected with the flu should reduce leading to the lowering of the flu case fatality rate. This assumes, of course, that our hospitals are not over whelmed and available medical services remains high.

    On a negative note:
Currently according to Worldometers the number of critically ill cases remain steady at 4% of case load. ( global - 14,379)

No, I don't. But it sounds like you might . . . after all it's "harmless" and no one has said it's a waste of time.
Uh . . . they get COVID via a GI infection - then they have it, and get SARS, and die.
