Actually probably the best precaution we are taking is cleaning round the house with bleach, diluted somewhat. Such a Chlorine based item would kill anything!!!

Moot if games cancelled but a neat idea

Does it represent each countries (yes I know the rings represent continents) athletes perform in their own country and merge the results to pick a winner?

I do this (although do I feel embarrassed doing it) .It is quite easy.

I bring my own bag to the shop and when I get home I spray every item separately with a diluted bleach solution including the bag, inside and out.
    Just takes a few minutes

You have to prepare the bleach solution daily I hear as it goes off after 24 hours.

It seems like a lot of trouble but if I didn't do it I would think about it later and wonder if.....

I agree we are being told most people will eventually get this but this is one day at a time for now

Hopefully by the time you do get it, if you do, the medico's will have better treatment options and if you are able to hold out long enough (say max 18 months) you may last until they develop a vaccine...

The virus is said to last for only a limited time on surfaces. So if you can use your cupboards as a quarantine zone you might be able to kill the virus just by time alone.
I am not sure about frozen foods...and Seattle is right there are limitations to what you can do ...

We do that. Of course, we've been using our own carry-bags for 25 years, and lately the bulk food store encourages customers to bring their own containers, as well. Most other items I buy are in sealed packages. The routine on arriving home is to unload one bag at a time onto a designated, pre-washed counter near the front door, toss outer clothing directly into the washing machine, then wash each item and bag before moving to relevant storage compartment. It's a little extra effort, but nobody can say we're asking to get sick.
Big conundrum just now is whether to keep doctor's app't at end of the month: partner very much against. It's just a routine consultation, but I have an idea it's better to see him now while things are pretty calm around here, because later I may not get the chance.

Yes we were going to cancel an echocardiogram appointment only for the hospital to cancel it for us at the last moment.

I also have a tooth that I can't get seen to for now as only emergency procedures are going on.

I don't wash my outer clothes after being out and about but I have upped the temperature of my machine washes.

People here are very good at keeping distance ...in any case the advice is that roughly 15 minutes close company is required under normal conditions ,which seems quite reassuring.

I cancelled a MIR next week in Queensland.

I did not really want to go anyways and I am happy continuing my hermit existence. Happy not having to explain to who ever is guarding the border that I have a medical appointment as I have no paperwork.
No astronomy for five months is getting to me however.
I managed a burn off of some dangerous fuel near my van which is great given a tree fell over and crushed one fire pump and the other was flooded.

There are no cases in this whole region as far as I know so I will risk going to town tomorrow to buy something more to eat as I came up with practically no food basically surviving on eggs and toast...even baked beans would be a treat.

Worse thing about being stuck at home is when you receive a phone call that goes on and on and on and on, as I just did. I was just about to say, OK seeya I have to run, when I realised there was no where to run!!

US is now at 68,000 cases and 1000 deaths. Deaths up 250 today alone - and the increase is accelerating.

I called the clinic and they've switched appointments to phone consultations, so I guess that's okay. Will write down ahead of time all question and meds to be renewed, so's not to waste time. (Pity - I quite like visiting the new young doctor. He hasn't heard all my jokes.)

Now that's a problem! I had a huge old filling pop out on the weekend, and my dentist isn't even in the office. If the rest of the tooth crumbles, I'm going to be in some serious pain.

We have five confirmed cases in the county, all travel-related.
As the man said, falling past the seventeenth floor, "Okay, so far!"

Might there be indications that NY is flattening the curve though?

    Ireland too.

It could be - or it could be that NY simply had a wave of testing so now they are at more realistic numbers (and rates.)

Day 8: Out of quarantine and feeling OK, except still no sense of taste or smell. I felt, fleetingly, that I could perhaps detect the smell of cooking fat when my son fried an egg for his breakfast, but I may have imagined it. It is getting mildly depressing not to be able to enjoy preparing or eating food and drink, especially when one is locked down in the house for much of the day. But I just have to be patient and wait for it to come back.

Meanwhile I can spend my time in the various Soviet Russia style queues to get into the supermarket, hoping that when I get inside it will have what I am looking for. So far I can now source eggs again, and also tinned fish and tomatoes, but cooking oil and pasta - and of course toilet paper, kitchen paper and tissues - are still out of stock. Fresh fruit and veg remain obtainable, if not in the variety we were used to.

A national demonstration of support for the NHS was organised last night from people's houses: open the door or window and clap at a predetermined time. It seems to have touched the hearts of the NHS people who are working all hours in the London hospitals. I can't help noticing the irony whereby one of the most right-wing libertarian governments in history is presiding over a massive exercise in collective social response - and has been forced to nationalise the railways again to stop them going bust. I have the feeling this crisis may have quite an effect on political ideology in the years to come.

Did you get tested for Covid-19, or are you just assuming that's probably what you have?

    Interesting.

I have had some kind of bug for the last couple of weeks. Since I never had a fever and I haven't (as far as I know) been in contact with anybody who has Covid-19, I've pretty much been assuming I have an ordinary cold-type virus, even though this one is persistent and not much fun.

If the "classic" symptoms of Covid-19 are a high fever and dry cough, I don't think I've really had that, but I certainly have something. I've had a runny nose that comes and goes, a headache some days, some lung congestion that seems hard to shake off, plus muscular aches and pains similar to what you describe. I've been coughing occasionally, but not a persistent dry cough. And I'm feeling weary.

I have been working on the assumption that this is most likely a regular bug I picked up from the kids, but I wonder...

According to the current testing regime where I live, I don't qualify for a Covid-19 test, mainly because I haven't - to my knowledge - been in contact with anybody who has been overseas recently or who is a confirmed case.

I'm working from home, so I guess I'm more or less self-isolating. I'm social distancing and all that.

Sadly testing is not generally available to us plebs, so I've had to go on symptoms, plus the timing of course. But the dry cough, slight fever, aches and now this loss of taste and smell are all consistent with Covid-19, which is roaring through London. (A third of Underground workers are now off, either ill or self-isolating due to contact with someone.) Also I've had my flu jab this year so it is unlikely to be regular flu. It has to be a working hypothesis that it was Covid-19.

The runny nose doesn't fit in your case, but the rest might. There's a test coming along to see who has antibodies to it. In time, you and I might be able to get tested to confirm.

I don't know if I got tested for COVID 19. Was in the hospital for something unrelated and they took a blood test when the shit hit the fan.

Might have given indication for higher temperature as well as not simply letting the thermometer lay under the tongue but wrapping around it.

Body aches don't seem to be one of the Covid-19 symptoms. I saw a graphic which indicated that they were associated with the Flu instead. Having gotten a Flu shot doesn't mean you can't get the flu, just not the particular Flu strain the vaccine is for. There can be more than one going around. This happened to my wife a few years ago. She had gotten her flu shot earlier that year. She came down with something, Fever, aches etc., and called an advice nurse. After describing her symptoms, she was told that she had the flu. When she told the nurse that she had gotten a her flu shot, the nurse told her that that year's vaccine wasn't effective for this particular version of the flu.
