If their faith comforts them, it helps.

I'm reminded of the story of a woman who was pulled from the rubble of a building who found comfort in saying that Jesus saved her, as she stood among the pile of dead people around her.

As you go through this COVID19 situation like the rest of the world, where does your hope come from? What are you hoping will happen?[/QUOTE]

    Science.
I hope they develop a vaccine.

As a Retired Registered Nurse with 40 years experience I went through a mild versions of this every day at normal work

    I don't have "hope". I know what's happening

I beef up my personal hygiene, avoid hazards and increase precautions

Figuratively speaking I'm no longer driving on the road, I'm in my stock car demolition derby

Needed increased protection then, same deal here

No need to hope - there is a cure

    Working on it takes time

It's a virus, killed them before and we will do so again

To live life without hope means you lack the knowledge to understand the situation ie have your eyes shut and not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (normality) is coming back

To hope doesn’t mean you don’t follow current events and accumulate knowledge. One can hope as he/she gains new knowledge of circumstances. The two are not opposed, really.

One can hope that God doesn't cause another pandemic I guess.

What I find interesting is when hope is placed on stuff in the world of reality you experience tangible results

Hope Billy does well in his exam

Billy does well ✓ hope true

Billy does not do well X hope not true

If hope is placed on stuff not in reality ANY result becomes true

    Hope god helps Billy

Billy does well ✓ gods will, true

Billy does not do well ✓ gods will, true

    True

Science , just as controlling as religion .

Neither is worthy of being in control of Human Destiny .

Religion - the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

“Organized religion” is not my thing, I’m referring to. Belief in God doesn’t require a building or pastor/rabbi/etc. Just my thoughts to it.

Organized Religion may not be what you think it is...

"The Abrahamic religions are all largely considered organised (including Christianity, Islam, Judaism and the Bahá'í Faith), as well as some schools of thought within Indian religions (for example, some schools of Hinduism and Buddhism)"

"Religions that are not considered organised religions, or only loosely so, include many indigenous and folk religions, such as traditional African religions, Native American religions and prehistoric religions, as well as personal religions including some strands of Hinduism" Wiki

So, if your beliefs have anything to do with Jesus, as an example, then you belong to an organized religion. It's not about buildings, pastors, etc.

I've heard folks like to refer to their beliefs as "Spirituality" and often don't want to have the title of "Religion" attached to their beliefs. This usually comes from some of the negative connotations the term invokes based on past events, which those very same folks don't want to be associated. Totally understandable as I've met many religious people who would never commit some of the acts committed in their gods names by others. Nonetheless, their beliefs, as do yours stem from those organized religions. It's really a shame, I feel for people like yourself who try and take the very best from those religions and dump the negative stuff, but unfortunately that negative baggage continues to stick.
