In summary - “we believe in freedom of speech and the right to assemble peacefully. We believe that people should use common sense and listen to their governors.” (More was said, but that’s the gist) Wtf kind of non-answer is that?!

The standard politician response. Say something happy, kiss a baby and you're out of there.

Just not to any extent that matters.

I can only see Trump coming out with more such garbage as the US state worsens, and his lackeys making excuses for him. Then that'll no doubt be followed up by the apologetic crowd. Ah well.

I don't think the US can take much more "success."

Finally, Pence is seen wearing a mask. Could be he’s strictly doing it for optics, but hopefully it’ll last. We need consistent messaging from the WH.

Yes, that's a good thing. Unfortunately, right after his announcement, a choir sang for him - and none wore masks. So we're getting there but there is a ways to go.

Here in Melbourne Australia, we are experiencing a major outbreak surge of cases leading to the strong possibility that suburbs will be quarantined with road blocks and fencing. This is due mainly to complacency regarding social distancing. IMO
    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06...ria-local-hotspot-suburban-lockdowns/12404010
It is going to be really strange to see quarantine barricades going up.
Underestimating the gravity of this pandemic and pushing for economic reasons to relax, sending mixed messaging and just plain pig headed-ness means that this unprecedented action of road blocks etc may be necessary.
1 step forward , 2 steps back comes to mind.

The Who have declared that the worse is yet to come globally.
The WHO chief is warning that the COVID-19 pandemic is actually speeding up globally. He criticized governments that have failed to establish reliable contact tracing to stop the virus's spread.

Globally 508,000 fatalities so far ( confirmed COVID-19) in about 6 months. (worldometer 30/06/2020)
Note: The stat is apparently understated by an estimated factor of 10

every person is like a walking bag of bundles of hundred dollars notes
the massive cost to the economy that just one person spreading the virus is, is not comprehended by many
billions of dollars are waiting ... on hold
for the all clear to start trading and putting people back to work

that infection cell is costing millions of dollars per day to the Australian economy
great that the government is taking it seriously

would not be a bad time for australia to brush up on its pork regulations to
keep African swine flu locked down and locked out of the aussie market while travel is low and they can employ more staff easily

thats the combo pack the economy doesn't need

Kind of reminds you of the US responses to terrorist threats, nonwhite immigration threats, and the like, no?

    Republicans Say:

On Mondays and Wednesdays the first responsibility of the Federal government is protecting the citizenry from foreign and criminal threats, including the ones abetted by irresponsible assembly (Freedom isn't free - that's why lefties must accept restrictions on assembly, and enemy countries are quarantined - no Americans may travel to Cuba, Iran, places like that).

On Tuesdays and Thursdays the first responsibility of the Federal government is to protect the freedom of Americans to assemble as they please, regardless of the foreign threats such assemblies impose on other Americans (Freedom isn't free, that's why lefties must accept the risks inherent in assemblies of people who don't understand stuff like germs).

In Republican World: Leftwing ideas are infectious and dangerous, Americans need protection from them even at the cost of giving up some freedoms. Germs are so small and harmless they are invisible, and Americans can protect themselves without governmental regulation.

Exactly. As long as the rich get richer, there are by definition no problems in a capitalist society.

    hell no !
they randomly abduct westerners and accuse them of spying for what appears to be political motivation to use as political leverage
(keeping in mind i have met a few Iranians, and they are generally very nice people)
& Iranian women are pretty hot mostly
would love to visit & see their historic sites & architecture but the risk is unreasonable.
it is run by a religious extremist pyramid power system
with scattered pockets of autonomous extremist military control(running autonomously with their own agendas)

unlike Cuba where it is a general democratic modality of socialist cohesion with over sight moderate control normalization
Cuba was set to be the next palm springs holiday resort island for the middle class until the American right wing destroyed it because they thought it would threaten their control of media & the both-sides voter apathy propaganda they spew out.

irony that Cuba would have been a road to economic salvation for them during & after COVID19
    but that's what extremists do

its open for some other country to take advantage of the massive economic & cultural opportunity sitting there
    Holiday resorts
    deep water marinas
    health spa's
    Fishing
    Boating
great currency exchange to pay workers well
great hospitality culture with incredible music

irony of the situation with as they call them 'criminal south Americans'
being moved in to peoples homes to live & make them food
    teach their children
    be alone with their children
pick and handle their vegetables & fruit

surprised there is no conspiracy theory saying covid19 was a south American bio weapon released by undocumented domestic workers in rich American houses
    lol
... south american Rothschild attacks north american Rothschild using bio weapons made by south American Illuminati to kill off rich white middle class older men

[ i was reading (and following) social media as people parents/young adults/mothers of young kids, were posting comments saying covid19 only killed old men so they didn't need to worry about face masks or quarantine]

    The thread, remember?

It has a topic (see above). Do try to focus - it's not that hard, and despite your obsessive interest this forum is never going to revolve around me and my personal circumstances, flaws, etc.

You might, for example, address the intellectual inability of Republicans (and their auxiliary: "Independents") to comprehend the germ theory of infectious disease, with its corollary of potential exponential growth in population (germs are reproductive organisms). It's a common feature of even the best educated ones, and that's kind of odd - it needs explanation, which you are unusually well placed to provide.

Why, what good is that going to do? No "change" is going to come from the 10 people in this forum. Might as well lighten up.

A policeman on each floor to maintain the lockdown...that's humorous even though the Republicans seem to want to ignore reality, a policeman on each floor is still obsessive (and humorous even more the Mid-West).
