Thanks for recognizing the word's origins and derogatory meaning.
I don't find the word Homosexual offensive

I don't find the word Lesbian (L) offensive.
I don't find the word Gay (G) offensive.
I don't find the word Bisexual (B) offensive
I don't find the word Transgender (T) offensive

I do I find the word Queer (Q) offensive.
Especially if it is used apart from the other words as if there is a separate category of Queergender

And what the (+) stands for is completely beyond me. Plusgender ?

My criticism does not imply "privilege", it implies freedom of speech and choice of terms.

And what categories might those be? Whatever is not very definitive, is it?
I'll let Tiassa answer the question.
    I agree.

I'll withdraw from this thread. Further discussion seems unproductive.

Indeed, it is not. Deliberately so.

It is not meant to be a closed list and it is certainly not necessary that it abide by your sense of order.

It is deliberately open (AKA inclusive) because it is becoming increasingly plain that gender is not binary; it is a continuum. There are androgyns, hermaphrodites, asexuals and twin spirits, to name just a few.

Withdraw from contributing, sure, but don't withdraw from reading. You stand to learn quite a bit.

Honey, we'll include Bronies under Queer if that's their only safe harbor. Everybody the gay-haters ever falsely accused gets cover under our rainbow.

Queer isn't nigger, and queer isn't bitch, but still, it's our word. Once upon a time, we were obliged to bear it as a burden. Now we fly the banner with pride. When queers stop trying to pass, they tend to feel a whole lot better. Who knows, maybe someday when it's okay for a man to want to feel pretty, some queer will wake up one morning and realize he's just an entomologist. Imagine a world when satin lingerie and bountiful body hair are no longer so confoundingly incongruous.

Remember, when they came to arrest the faggots, a dyke banged on the paddy wagon and demanded her equal right as a woman to be arrested for homosexuality, and when that erupted into a riot, the boys decided to stage a musical number. Celebrate queerness.

Y'know, in the end, when Tammy Faye was dying, and her friends from Christian society abandoned her, she found community among homosexuals. And if we stop and think about it for a second, that actually makes sense. While many people ridiculed her as a glamorized idiot, well, remember what passes for a proper drag race, and recognize Tammy Fay Messner as a style icon. But also, these were men who survived a plague, for whom watching friends die was just a part of getting through the days. And in that moment, with all the world a stage and the show hanging silent on bated breath, why would they not draw near? It only took society itself to drive basic human dignity into the shelter of queer neighborhood.

That's the thing about winning the Gay Fray; the phobes put up such an indecent campaign against basic human dignity, over and over again, and each time the Queer was just a little bit closer in people's lives as more and more people knew a gay friend or relative. When we finally won at the ballot box, and in the courts, it was in no small part because the spectacle of the anti-gay performance really left society no other choice. People turned to dignity because they could no longer fail to discern the difference.

It's true: Queer was a slur. That's not how it works, anymore; we won't let it be.

And, yes, actually, we do get to say so. Otherwise, we'll just stage a musical, and everyone else will sing along and buy the merch.

Y'know, though: LGBTF+ probably works better. Since homosexual men tend to dom the word gay, we can change queer to fun or fabulous. That way the plus sign can accommodate the sad emo kids; depressed goths will just tell us to fuck off and remind us to not call them goth. And they'd be proud to be called queer, except the pride thing is a whole lot of effort just to pat themselves on the back, so whatever. Or something.

And when it comes to a whole lot of effort, look, it's one thing if I reject certain arguments about polygamy, but that has a particular context pertaining to gay marriage. The question of the plus also includes a question of how much effort I want to put into imagining what hasn't occurred to me, yet. Compared to the Gay Fray, the Transquisition is a question that needs to be formally settled, especially as we already know the answer. And if I can brush aside any number of paraphilias attempting to ride the human rights of homosexuals and transgender, that cannot be taken to mean my comprehension sets the outer boundary. In many ways we're uncertain what to do for the Queer; in many cases it's just a matter of community and welcome. And the Plus, as I said, acknowledges the ranges we have not yet figured out. LGBTQ+ has lived through this much, and ought to know better than to establish formal limitations in unknown territory.
