i am slightly intrigued by the incidence of common cold & Flu among people in unlocking citys.

i had a very mild cold for about 3 days
    however
The person i caught it off had it for nearly 8 days and was quite slowed down by it

i have quite a rigorous diet
    he does not
his partner whom he lives with did not catch(visually contract) it though had a running nose for 1 day but can have a running nose from an allergic response

this is all quite fascinating to me from a point of the alarm & damage brought on by viruses and the sometimes glancing blow a virus can have on one person while potentially killing or hospitalizing another.

i can feel a cold virus in my system again today
i tend to be a bit of a super carrier
i don't contract it to any greater extent than a mild passing allergic response while others will be forced to take a day off work and feel quite poorly for several days

    though ...
i note those who go to the gym several times a week (AND)/or are self studied in (simple non superstitious)herbalist nutrition & remedy's seems to cope quite well.

technically if this feeling is a cold virus
this would be my 2nd cold virus in 3 weeks
and directly linked to me going back into work(being exposed to close physical contact with people outside my original bubble)

keeping in mind i have come down with colds and flus before that have hit me like a mild cold for 2 days maybe 3 days
and the same virus has sent some to hospital
and others in bed for nearly 2 days & off work for maybe 3 days

i am fairly convinced that my ability to sense the virus 1st symptoms and immediately change my diet to combat it makes a HUGE difference.

if i think i can sense a cold virus
i immediately change my diet, most people appear to lack the self control to do that.

Discus blog post your personal experiences of colds & flus
please be respectful of the readers, knowing some have lost friends and family to Covid & other viruses
this is not a micro-biology thread as i am not versed in microbiology(comments, references & Links welcome)

note i have a few secrets of how to tweak & amplify the body's immune system with herbs and foods
i have learnt that through personal trial and error over many years
but i don't share that with anyone
    diet is like religion
many people think its more important for them to believe in their own mental imagery & emotion rather than concentrate on what they are eating
There is so much Toxic ego surrounding most peoples diet routines and personality
i go out of my way to avoid the subject

I have been getting regular flu shots for the last 10 years (in consideration of partner's susceptibility to infection) and caught none of the usual viruses that go around. I do have occasional colds, though it's not easy to distinguish one from the chronic nasal drip, dry mouth and scratchy throat left over from cancer treatments over a decade ago. None have been serious enough to require more than a few menthol candies and an afternoon nap.
When I lived in a city, I caught two or three bad colds every winter. Out here, hardly any. Country living imposes its own social distances, even as it confers the benefits of a wholesome environment.
As for diet, we don't eat meat or fish and do grow some organic vegetables; otherwise, quite relaxed, except for partner's annual Serious Weight Loss Regimen - which has one basic tenet: If you're not hungry, you're cheating. (It always works, too.)

my weight loss regime revolves around a 3 day cycle
i know how much food i can eat without gaining weight
if i eat more than that one day. i will reduce my food the following day or a a day or soo after that.
it is fairly simple & works 100%
however i do recognize the vast majority of humans are incapable of controlling what & how much they eat.

    i digress...

my intention of this thread was to attempt to try & establish what incidence of colds was going around during Covid_19 (SARS Cov-2)
    ...because
given the early indications of it having a very high asymptomatic state, i wondered if it might be getting dismissed as a very mild common cold.
so while people claim to be perfectly healthy on further inquiry & more precise examination of their own self analysis they end up realizing they have been displaying obvious symptoms of common colds while this has been the SARs CoV-2 being spread.

it looks like my theory is correct.
(((i see India tests show around 21% of all people tested have had SARs Cov-2 which is a big number of 1.3 billion people, that suggests millions have died)))

that's roughly 200 million people in India by those stats
have had SARs CoV-2 then add the kill rate & add elderly people
    add no health care system
    etc etc etc ...
china likely has a spike in its rural villages where death causes are not recorded.

what is not mentioned about country living is that it almost always has a longer travel time and longer response time by emergency services(as one would expect).
so when aligning concepts of critical health impacts, you must factor the increased death & injury severity against with the increased travel & response time.

what i had wondered about which we see in the rural USA states
is the massive spike in infection transmission
my suspicion which looks potentially correct was
in rural areas, though having larger natural social distancing, the patients response time to self admit & acclimatization toward independent resilience may potentially work against them as it serves the Viruses primary objective almost 100%

what we now see is semi rural(isolated community's which have incubated the virus)
to create new more virulent strains, as predicted by the virologists.

no big surprises yet except for the massively poor response by governments.

The only two occasions on which I was present when an ambulance was required, they took approximately 20 minutes to arrive. That's 6-8 minutes longer than in Ontario cities. OTOH, the local hospital's emergency room is never crowded and they can take stretcher cases immediately upon arrival.

I didn't, since the question was about specific ailments, rather than medical care.

Is due to church-going, sporting events, distrust of scientific authority and Trump influence. Maybe that last will finally wane now, but expect a really big spike at the end of february.

Rural USA is like rural Ontario in some respects, but different in others. So are the two health-care systems. So, for that matter, are both patient attitude and health care availability different from one region of the US to another. I would caution against blanket conclusions from small samples.

thats quite good on a general guide.
assuming they are fully trained highly professional full time(with a full kitted ambulance) & not just a local fire brigade person who is volunteer with regular 1st aid training etc.

    AED devices (heart cardio re-starters/jumpers)

have a higher survival rating with shorter time to access etc.

im guessing( at the risk of going too far off the subject however it is probably some good statistics that can be quite useful to public health)
that some types of medical cal outs may have differing outcomes depending on type to gain a better proportional management of resources.
strokes & heart attacks in aging people
verses non immediately critical bone fractures in younger people working in rural areas.

while response time may be a lot faster in urban high density
it might correlatively be required to gain a better outcome with more severe types of calls

schools & grocery stores would be by far more mass spreader than sporting events
    or church
grocery stores would not wash down where people sneeze on fruit & vegetables & carry bags & Credit Card debit card terminal buttons

i expect a majority of church leaders would eventually realize their church is primarily held together by older people & thus in tern require better moral practice for hygiene practices.
however, interaction with children would simply torch all those mild half poorly practiced virtue signalling events.

    creationism in schools
    weekly church anti science preaching
    republican influencing
trump doesn't preach anything that is not 100% core republican
they follow trump because he is symbolically the leading moral & intellectual concept of what the republican party stand for.
thats obvious with their voting statistics & public moral position.
    however
since your driving down this lane in my covid thread(i dont mind as long as its brief & related)
the need to be 1 of only 2 validated positions is obvious
    the winner
    or
    the loser
if they become the loser which they have done in the election
they will attempt to align themselves to be not wrong & always the winner by claiming to have slightly different political opinions to then claim they are just following orders & so not a real loser but instead a victim of circumstance
inflicted on them by liberal leftys.

Yep. No problems there. The hospitals of the smaller communities - like, under 5000 - are not as well equipped or staffed as they should be. There are always budget problems, of course, but the biggest problem is how few doctors want to work outside a metropolis.

    access etc.
I do not know why why this bloody big unnecessary picture is here. I can't erase it.

Maybe. The worst thing we usually have to deal with is highway accidents and house fires - no collapsed skyscrapers or gang shootings. Police, fire department, ambulance crews and ER staff are pretty good at dealing with those. In our local area, there is a large number of retirees and 20-odd nursing homes. All I know about those is that none had a covid outbreak. The county has had altogether 663 confirmed cases, 633 recovered, one dead, one currently hospitalized.

That's not the stats I've heard.
Despite widespread concerns, two new international studies show no consistent relationship between in-person K-12 schooling and the spread of the coronavirus. And a third study from the United States shows no elevated risk to childcare workers who stayed on the job.
    However,
They say places such as bars, theaters, and churches where people congregate closely are higher risk gatherings for coronavirus spread.
That is not my experience. My grocery store allows a limited number of properly masked customers in at any one time, supervises them coming and going past the giant dispenser of sanitizer, swabs down every cart, conveyor belt and freezer handle between customers, keeps a strict distance at the checkout and has marked all one-way aisles. Pretty much everyone has been following the protocol without protest and carefully staying away from one another, bringing and packing their own bags. Nobody is sneezing on the fruit!!!

You would also expect pigs to fly, no doubt.
People who don't believe in science don't listen to advice; they congregate in large groups with no protection and they get sick. But they sometimes refuse to believe it, even then.

Bullfeathers! Republicans let trump preach anything he wants to because they're scared of his brownshirts.

It was. Indoor gatherings of large numbers of people, many or most without masks, yelling, cheering and singing, are likely to result in a whole lot of those people getting sick, if if there was only one carrier. If they were somebody else's rallies, they'd have the same effect.

    the picture thing
some links appear to go invisible sometimes when you start editing on an edit/reply(i have found this around 1% roughly i suspect it is some type of conflict with the browser & the web site)

i will take this apart when i have to time & look into the science to get an idea of how why & where etc.

i am reading the 1st article as i type
it appears to be jumping all over the place and has not put forward any actual data or statistics.
    all anecdotal.
it offers Spanish transmission origin infections in children as a class of infection route.
saying 13% of all infections came from schools
this is probably not a stand alone figure
small child family's would have a much higher rate of fluid to fluid contact.

i am getting distracted with some personal irl stuff so i have to leave it there.

suffice to say there is significant missing data
AND possibly more importantly would be the size correlation to demographic spread of large USA schools
Spanish schools are probably more like rural usa schools
need to leave it there for now

your grocery store is probably not a typical example of large scale grocery stores
and might not represent the sheer number of those openly ignoring rules.

closing the gate after the horse has bolted & then claiming the horse mated with a flying pig ?
    if you see my point

i will come back later in a day or so to finish replying to your post properly.

Overview. See embedded links and compare with other sources. There are many.
Invariably! We may be fated never to know everything about everything.
It is not only typical of, but identical to the protocol in all grocery stores in my geographic area.
It's a difficult point to visualize. Preachers are not cut from a single piece of black worsted. God may make housecalls if He likes, but He doesn't collect the offertory.

Unfortunately, there is little evidence to support the idea that any particular nutritional regimen universally prevents or treats the common cold. It is easy to find individual studies that suggest this might be the case, but evidence for interventions aimed at preventing and treating the common cold is frequently of poor quality, and results are inconsistent between studies. When a meta analysis is performed on the available literature, the conclusion is that nutritional regimens are, at best, minimally effective at preventing/treating colds. And when they are efficacious, it’s only for some people.

For example, echinacea is minimally effective: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4068831/

For example, extra doses of vitamin C only benefits some people: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6057395/

The best evidence for the prevention of the common cold supports physical interventions (e.g., handwashing, masks, distancing) and possibly the use of zinc supplements. No other nutritional supplements come close to matching these interventions:

    agree
not all metabolisms work the same
different foods vitamins & minerals effect different people differently
    also
most people simply are incapable of consciously monitoring their face touching which self infects them with viruses.

the pandemic may start to alter that a bit.

im not suggesting your unwashed(& my point is i am not suggesting zinc doesn't do anything)
but i suggest you look at (((my point is)))your socialization habits of exposure difference over the last 20 years compared to the 30 years prior to that
once people get past around late 20s their socialization goes down a great deal
massively reducing their exposure to viruses

that is where children make the new connections of infection
    schools
    sports clubs
    play groups
    friends
    etc etc

i dont buy into the magic single cure argument
    it is true
    is it untrue
where is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for me to hoard all the money to myself... etc

look at cold & flu medications which simply re packet paracetamol with some random non proven non lethal substance & simply apply a pain killer for 3 days as the virus is combated by peoples own immune systems.
what a fake gold mine that is
    made billions
continues to make hundreds of millions
would love a piece of that action

I only take zinc after i catch a cold... not to prevent colds... an 80% of the colds i do get are at least 50% shorter wit 50% milder symptoms.!!!

it would be interesting if it were a safe known outcome to see what happens if you don't take the zinc
Given the pandemic & the new UK & South African strains, not combating probable viral infection immediately can be a death sentence.

i am like a religious zealot with hand washing & naturally a people watcher so i see all those people who pick their nose, stick their fingers in their mouth or wipe their eye mucus or clean their ear & then attempt to touch other people or shared use items.

around 40% of people who pick their nose or stick their fingers in their mouth are consciously unaware of it.

it appears to be wired into the thumb sucking lower brain emotional response network so goes on subconsciously.

roughly speaking around 50%(maybe slightly higher) of people you see picking their nose in public are in fact thumb sucking(nose mouth eyes ears) at a subconscious level.

Befor i started usin zinc when i got a cold… all my colds was a dreaded pain in the azz.!!!
I missed about 5 days work when i had flu in 1978… but i never missed work due to a cold… but it sure made for 2 to 3 miserable days workin.!!!
After about 3 years of success wit usin zinc… i started buyin it befor cold season so i coud start usin it immediately when symptoms occured.!!!
I thank the key for zinc success is takin it right away… an use until symptoms are mostly gone… which for me has been about 3 - 4 days.!!!

When i worked for the city pickin up trash... the first thang we woud do is eat breakfast inside a restaurant... an this one guy woud lay his toast on the table an smear butter an jelly on it... an just use the table as a plate for his toast.!!!
Some people play wit ther dog an then eat wit-out washin ther hands.!!!
I wash hands a lot also... diferent strokes for difernt folks

I wouldn’t call paracetamol (‘acetaminophen’ to you North Americans) “fake”. It’s simply a matter of alleviating symptoms as opposed to curing the infection. I would never dissuade anyone from taking some analgesia and feeling a bit better whilst their bodies recover from an infection.

Paracetamol is an interesting drug. In my opinion it qualifies as a wonder drug – a safe and effective over-the-counter medication for low-level pain… as long as it is taken as directed. In overdose it is an extremely deadly hepato-toxic drug.

i agree it is a wonder drug
i am not an anti-MEDder(anti drug science)
both NSAID(nurophen) & paracetamol do AMAZING things for women quietly & in the hundreds of millions.
equally i have read extensively on placebo effects & realize placebo effect can make the difference between life & death.
not to mention maintain daily life functionality for mental well being.

i am being slightly cynically pedantic
like wise in this question ...
have you read any studys you would stake your personal income on for Phenylephrine as an orally administered, sinus & nasal & chest/bronchial decongestant ?

Ahh, phenylephrine (PE). Don’t get me started.

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

If paracetamol is a wonder drug, PE is closer to the other end of the spectrum. I’ve lived through the transition from pseudoephedrine-based medication to PE-based meds, and in my personal experience, PE is useless.

But I don’t have to rely on my personal opinion. A brief look at the literature indicates that for every study that supports PE efficacy there is one that concludes it’s little better, or no better, than placebo.
    Example: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17264159/

Fortunately, I’m in Australia where you can still purchase small packs of OTC pseudoephedrine-based medication. To any government authority monitoring my comms: I promise I won’t use it to make methamphetamine.

on the off if you have any links to PE studys please feel free to post them(but only if you already have the link dont go looking for me its not that important)
it looked like there was large scale professional global internet repression of PE information for some years
i stopped looking for it years ago after reading what limited studys i could find.

Aussie appears from the media drug bust news to have quite a substantial meth industry
socio-psychologicaly that makes a lot of sense as the society exists between frontier farming to 1st place global high street megga city competitiveness.

just saying no to the 22nd century doesn't really work
im very lucky in that i cant get addicted to meth but saying that to the average person is like talking rocket science to monkeys so its a subject area i dont get into.

additionally, i suspect the lack of meth will be driving up colds n flus
    note my addiction thread
i would guess steroids will be taking the place of meth a lot in aussie now
thats a bit of a burden for the lymphatic system & hormone regulation/thyroid etc.

    http://www.sciforums.com/threads/addictions-substance-behaviours.164037

im interested in the behavioral side of steroid addiction not the bio-chem side.
